About The Position

This position is accountable for providing marine project support to Orion. Incumbents are responsible for supervising daily on-going operations on the work barge and ensuring that all work performed is done in a safe and efficient manner. Typically, this individual will work closely with Carpenters, Project Superintendents, Project (Field) Engineers, Safety Representatives, Boat Captains, Pile Drivers, Welders, Laborers, and other skilled or semi-skilled craft persons on the work site. The incumbent must support the guiding beliefs and core values of Orion which are centered on Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Teamwork, most importantly with each built upon the all-important foundation of Integrity.

Requirements

  • A minimum of five (5) years marine construction/carpentry experience or equivalent experience in a marine construction supervisory capacity is needed.
  • Incumbents must be well-versed in reading blueprints and diagrams.
  • Incumbents must have knowledge of the integration of carpenters and various crafts to successfully perform their work.
  • Craft knowledge should include carpentry, concrete forms fabrication and use, construction of marine structures including concrete forms, cofferdams, trestles, etc.
  • Incumbents should also be trained and certified in First Aid and CPR.
  • The incumbent must be an effective verbal communicator and be able to keep simple records of time and material used for each project.
  • The Company expects and requires incumbent and each of its other employees to observe and fulfill the above and all other safety responsibilities and actively work toward maintaining a safe workplace. Failure to do so can result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment.
  • Walking, stepping, climbing, or otherwise moving from one location on the job site to another, which normally involves physically getting onto and off of work barges, boats, vessels, or dock facilities of varying heights and access parameters.
  • Standing, stooping, kneeling, squatting, climbing, or sitting for long periods of time.
  • Climbing vertical ladders to heights of 40'-50'.
  • Working in confined spaces.
  • Working at elevated heights.
  • Lifting objects up to 50 lbs. as required.
  • Carrying objects up to 50 lbs. as required.
  • Adapting to extreme temperature changes.
  • Adapting to outdoor conditions and prolonged exposure.
  • Remaining calm during emergencies and responding appropriately as dictated by the circumstance of the incident.

Responsibilities

  • Works as assigned by the Project Superintendent to ensure the successful completion of current carpentry and concrete work on marine construction projects.
  • Determines the sequence of activities involved with planning form fabrication, assembly, and completion of concrete structures.
  • Works with the Superintendent to review blueprints and determine dimensions of concrete and marine structures and forms that will be built and used.
  • Assigns work crews to tasks such as cutting materials to size, building concrete forms, and setting and erecting forms.
  • Supervises carpenters and carpenter crews engaged in concrete work and building marine structures such as trestles, cofferdams, and supports for concrete forms.
  • Ensures compliance with all Company Health, Safety & Environmental Policies and Procedures.
  • Trains new workers in use of equipment and tools and analyzes and resolves work problems.
  • Maintains time records for employees in the work crew and supervises and coordinates activities of employees in the work crew.
  • Utilizes positive and negative pressure respirators and/or SCBA respiratory equipment for self and crews as per customer job and/or contract requirements.
  • Demonstrates safety knowledge concerning chemical and/or process hazards associated with construction work. These include but are not limited to lockout/tagout, confined space, fall protection, respiratory protection, emergency action plan, CPR/First Aid procedures, and job and/or contract requirements.
  • Works closely with the General Foreman, Crane Operators, Helpers, and other skilled crafts persons to complete current projects in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Participates in Health, Safety, and Environmental initiatives that will contribute to compliance with State/Federal regulations and improve existing Company programs.
  • Possesses the qualifications and ability to drive regular passenger vehicles to visit work locations and job sites.
  • Responsible and accountable for incumbent's own personal safety.
  • Responsible and accountable for the safety of all co-workers and any others incumbent comes in contact with.
  • Authorized and obligated to stop work on any task or series of tasks whenever an unsafe condition or situation is anticipated or is observed.
  • Complies with all applicable laws, regulations, and Company policies and procedures and is subject to appropriate disciplinary action (including dismissal) for failure to do so.
  • Reports any and all violations of applicable laws, regulations, or Company policies and procedures promptly and is subject to appropriate disciplinary action (including dismissal) for failure to do so.
  • Performs other related administrative and technical duties as may be assigned or requested by immediate supervision (such as certification training, safety training, procedure review, etc.).
