About The Position

Macalester College seeks to hire a Full Time Carpenter II to work in its Facilities Services Department. This position combines a variety of responsibilities of carpentry and general building maintenance. As a Carpenter II, you will be part of the trades team that maintains college buildings and environments around campus. The trades group is responsible for all types of carpentry/general maintenance activities, which include planning, repairing, constructing, rebuilding and installing of wall and ceiling materials, windows, doors, cabinetry, restroom hardware, stairs, roofing and furniture in and around campus.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5-8 years of experience that includes
  • Successful completion of accredited carpenter apprenticeship program of 7,000 hours or equivalent full-time carpenter experience as accepted by industry standards.
  • Minimum of two years of consecutive full-time current employment as a journeyman carpenter, with demonstrated combination of commercial and residential construction experience.
  • Possesses demonstrated knowledge of carpentry and general maintenance activities including the proper sequential order of repairing, constructing, rebuilding, and installing of: windows, doors, flooring, walls and ceiling materials.
  • Possesses demonstrated knowledge and experience in safely operating commonly used hand tools, power tools and shop wood working machinery.

Nice To Haves

  • Some locksmith experience to include, building cores, cutting keys and repair and replacement of door hardware is preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, repair and installation work on walls, this could include. Metal or wood construction, sheetrock and taping, plaster repair, marker and tack boards, vinyl base millwork, etc.
  • Maintain, repair and installation work on windows, this could include. Glass, glazing, hardware, storms, screens, shades, blinds, drapes, millwork, etc.
  • Maintain, repair and installation work on doors, this could include. Glass, glazing, hardware, locks, storm doors, screens, thresholds, etc.
  • Maintain, repair and installation work on flooring, this could include. Carpet, VCT flooring, vinyl sheet flooring, ceramic tile, hardwood, etc.
  • Maintain, repair and installation work on restroom equipment, this could include. Partition panels, ADA railings and grab bars, shelving, mirrors, towel and soap dispensers, etc.
  • Maintain, repair and installation work on ceilings, this could include. Lay-in ACT, spline ceilings, plaster, sheetrock, etc.
  • Follow safe work practices and all environmental, health and safety policies and procedures.
