As the Carpenter, you will work on site in Houston, TX and surrounding areas and you will be responsible for completing the skilled carpentry work according to project plans and supervisory instruction. Under general supervision you will perform master-level work in the design, construction, repair and maintenance of structures and related physical facilities and perform related work as required. You will be responsible for the full range of rough skilled carpentry work, using, or working from one or more blueprints, as-built, specifications, drawings, or instructions to design, build, retrofit, maintain, and construct various types of facilities and structures. This position must inspect completed work for conformance with specifications, requirements and compliance with applicable building and safety codes and regulations with supervisor.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Four (4) years master-level experience working as a carpenter in a heavy highway or structural operations, commercial, industrial, or military construction operations setting.
  • Ability to pass drug, driving (if applicable) and background screening.
  • Knowledge of structural bridge elements and concrete formwork systems.
  • All around knowledge of materials, terms, and practices in construction field.
  • Excellent understanding of carpentry techniques and methods of installation and construction.
  • Proficient in using electrical and manual equipment and measurement tools.
  • Experience with reading plans and understanding tasks at hand.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve complex issues, both logical and interpersonal.
  • Work requires professional verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Works well in group problem solving situations.
  • Ability to participate in group meetings, take directions from supervisor(s) and other crew members, high degree of attention to details, follow work rules, and adhere to project schedule.
  • Ability to actively listen and follow instructions.
  • Ability to work productively under pressure and to pay attention to the details of a project or task.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to provide own basic carpentry/structural hand tools preferred/
  • Experience in federal government projects preferred.
  • Valid state driver’s license and qualified to operate a vehicle under the conditions of the Company’s Driving Policy preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze historical project performance data to support accurate estimating and future bid development.
  • Assist with maintaining historical cost data, bid management systems, and estimating software.
  • Work collaboratively with senior company managers to ensure estimating deliverables meet established standards, including bid packages, formats, and budget tracking tools.
  • Utilize HCSS HeavyBid in accordance with established processes and procedures.
  • Maintain and update HCSS HeavyBid libraries as assigned.
  • Update equipment rates annually and labor rates quarterly, accounting for project-specific wage requirements when applicable.
  • Ensure project estimates conform to company standards for budget creation and cost data usage.
  • Review project plans and specifications to confirm scope completeness.
  • Identify potential risks, cost impacts, constructability concerns, and long-lead procurement items.
  • Solicit subcontractor and supplier pricing and maintain supporting documentation within estimating software.
  • Maintain bid history records and track prospective work opportunities.
  • Prepare instructions to bidders, bid forms, and other solicitation documents as required.
  • Review general conditions, schedules, scopes of work, site logistics, and related exhibits in coordination with Operations.
  • Ensure continuity of project information from estimate through budget handoff.
  • Review and evaluate specialty contractor bids and scopes.
  • Coordinate technical proposal requirements with the Marketing Department.
  • Collaborate with operational staff to review constructability and execution considerations.
  • Monitor and communicate construction and material cost trends impacting project estimates.
  • Evaluate alternate means and methods to determine cost-effective solutions.
  • Build and maintain effective professional relationships with clients, design teams, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
  • Maintain a constant state of alertness and perform work safely.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
