About The Position

The Touring Carpentry Sub assists the Head Carpenter and works with the crew to run, move, and maintain all carpentry elements associated with the Hell’s Kitchen First National Tour safely and consistently. They are responsible for the safe use and operation of the scenic elements and equipment on a day-to-day basis. This is a temporary position based on the coverage needs of the production. Requirements

  • Theatrical rigging knowledge including counterweight.
  • Min 2 years’ experience working on an IATSE Pink Contract touring show.
  • Team player, able to work long hours in very close quarters with many different types of passionate personalities.
  • Able to physically lift 75 pounds, comfortable lifting and walking backwards, comfortable walking up and down stairs.
  • Must be able to work around loud sounds and flashing lights.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Understanding of the IATSE Pink Contract rules and guidelines.

Nice To Haves

  • Chain Motor repair skills are a plus.
  • Scenic carpentry experience is a plus. Including: woodworking, metalworking, basic mechanics, fabric repairs, etc.
  • Knowledge of or experience in road venues throughout the country is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Load In / Out show at each venue at the highest level possible, conducting tasks in a safe manner while working to say on the schedule set by the Head Carpenter.
  • Operation of show deck carpenter cues run in a safe and repeatable manner.
  • Regular participation in work calls and rehearsals, as directed by Stage Management and the Head Carpenter.
  • Inspection of show equipment at preset of each performance.
  • Verify and help complete periodic inspection of show equipment and document as needed.
  • Repair or direct the repair of scenic elements, as needed.
  • Report on inoperable items to Production Carpenter, Head Carpenter, and Production Management as necessary.
  • Regular communication via phone, email, and onsite.
  • Arrival on time and ready for work at the start of each call.
