About The Position

The Caseworker is responsible for all aspects of providing hands-on assistance to those struggling with homelessness, housing, and utility service insecurity. The Caseworker will conduct interviews with clients seeking assistance for various human service needs and making referrals to other area agencies for further services if needed. The Caseworker must maintain daily records of clients including but not limited to case notes/forms/files/correspondence/statistical information and housing plans.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required, associate degree in social services or related field is preferred.
  • A minimum of 2 years experience in social services or a related field is required.
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing; follow written and verbal instructions; organize responsibilities, multitask, and function independently; and work in a team environment.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent time management and customer service skills, high energy level, and solid work ethic.
  • Knowledge of community resources.
  • Must complete KeepSafe and other required trainings upon hire.
  • Bilingual ability (English and Spanish) preferred; proficiency in spoken and written English required
  • Demonstrate discretion, integrity, and confidentiality in dealing with all matters and the ability to engage with diverse populations.
  • Valid Driver’s License and clean driving record required
  • Knowledge of cultural flexibility, competence in working with multi-cultural participants and experience working with inner-city populations.
  • Detail oriented with keen attention to accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Child Protection Clearances PA Act 153 requires that all prospective employees complete the following clearance and background checks prior to employment: PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check and FBI Criminal Record/Fingerprint Check. Meets the Child Protection Clearances required by PA Act 153 to include PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check and FBI Criminal Record Check along with renewals every five years.
  • Must have an understanding of and support the Mission of The Salvation Army.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee organization and record keeping for corps financial assistance work.
  • Schedule appointments with clients; secure required information; provide referrals or assistance as helpful.
  • Work with shelter assigned shelter guests and work toward completion of housing plan.
  • Ensure complete files are maintained for each client, that files are removed per approved retention schedule, and that all files are handled in a confidential manner.
  • Ensure information is entered into record-keeping systems required by funders.
  • Monitor various funding streams available for providing assistance; discuss non-funded needs with officers.
  • Complete reports required by funders and have approved by Corps Officer before submission.
  • Assist with government grant proposals and reports, as requested.
  • Provide social service statistics for recording into the nationally approved system.
  • Communicate with Corps Officers via email or in-person regarding any concerns.
