The Opportunity This position works out of our Plymouth, MN location for our Electrophysiology medical device business. In Abbott’s Electrophysiology (EP) business, we’re advancing the treatment of heart disease through breakthrough medical technologies in atrial fibrillation, allowing people to restore their health and get on with their lives. We’re looking for a Category Manager, Electronics to lead strategic sourcing and supplier partnerships that power life‑changing medical devices. This is a high‑visibility, high‑impact role for someone who loves building strategy, influencing stakeholders across the globe, and solving complex supply challenges. What You’ll Work On In this role, you’ll shape the electronics category strategy end‑to‑end — ensuring Abbott has the right suppliers, technologies, and cost structure to support advancing healthcare worldwide.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, or related field (MBA preferred).
  • 5–8 years of Procurement and/or deep category management experience.
  • Strong relationship‑building, influencing, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and comfort with data/Excel.
  • Knowledge of procurement best practices and category technologies.
  • Effective negotiator with international experience.
  • Ability to travel up to 20% (including internationally).

  • Microsoft Office Suite proficiency.
  • Professional procurement certifications (CPSM, CPM, or similar).

Responsibilities

  • Drive Strategy & Innovation Identify opportunities for new business, process optimization, and major cost improvements.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert across electronics categories and electronic contract manufacturing.
  • Develop and execute global sourcing strategies that improve cost, quality, service, risk mitigation, and overall competitiveness.
  • Lead Supplier Excellence Build a world‑class supplier base and evaluate future needs in alignment with division goals.
  • Track market trends, cost drivers, and technology developments — and proactively adjust strategies.
  • Negotiate and manage medium‑to‑high risk contracts to ensure favorable terms for Abbott.
  • Create long‑term, collaborative partnerships with suppliers to drive continuous improvement.
  • Enable Cross‑Functional Impact Partner closely with R&D, Operations, Supply Chain, and corporate procurement leaders.
  • Lead and mentor purchasing and commodity teams on best practices, negotiation, and supplier management.
  • Launch cost‑reduction initiatives and risk mitigation plans that ensure stable, competitive electronics supply.
  • Develop cross‑functional commodity teams to align division‑wide needs and supplier capabilities.
