About The Position

The Catering Sous Chef leads the culinary production for Plum Market’s Corporate Client program, executing elevated, scratch-made menus that reflect our commitment to natural, organic, and locally sourced ingredients. This hands-on culinary leader is responsible for preparing high-quality food, supporting menu development, supervising BOH catering operations, and ensuring every event meets or exceeds Plum Market’s food and service standards. The Catering Sous Chef plays a key role in maintaining production excellence, creativity, and consistency in a fast-paced catering environment.

Requirements

  • Proven culinary experience in catering, restaurant, or foodservice environments.
  • Strong cooking and prep skills with a focus on presentation and execution.
  • Experience supervising a team and leading kitchen production for events.
  • Excellent communication and time management skills.
  • Ability to support menu development and seasonal offerings.
  • Flexibility to work varied shifts including nights, weekends, holidays, and early mornings.
  • Physical ability to stand and walk for up to 4 hours without a break.
  • Ability to bend and stoop to grasp objects, climb ladders, lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted, and push/pull carts weighing up to 100 lbs. unassisted.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with catering logistics and production planning preferred.
  • ServSafe Manager certification preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word).

Responsibilities

  • Support culinary execution for all catering events, ensuring food quality, presentation, and timing meet Plum Market’s standards.
  • Collaborate with the Catering Coordinator and Executive Chef to review BEOs and align production with event needs.
  • Assist with recipe development and food styling for catering menus, seasonal promotions, and specialty events.
  • Lead kitchen prep and production for both on- and off-site catering functions.
  • Supervise BOH catering staff, delegate tasks, and provide direction to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and food-safe kitchen environment.
  • Assist with inventory, ordering, and cost management as needed.
  • Uphold all food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety standards.
  • Train and mentor Team Members on culinary techniques, food safety, and service expectations.
  • Communicate effectively with the Catering and Prepared Foods leadership team to ensure seamless execution.
