About The Position

The CDL A Switcher is responsible for safely moving trailers within the yard and positioning them at dock doors for loading and unloading. This role requires strong safety awareness, the ability to operate yard tractors and semi-trucks, and a willingness to perform physical work in varying weather conditions.

Requirements

DOT qualified; must pass physical examination and substance abuse testing
CDL Class A or B preferred; valid driver’s license required
One (1) year of verifiable tractor-trailer experience
Clean driving record
Ability to repeatedly lift up to sixty (60) pounds
Strong safety awareness and attention to detail
Courteous, professional demeanor
Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills to maintain accurate records
High school diploma or equivalent
Must meet DOT standards for truck drivers and pass company pre-employment substance abuse check

Responsibilities

Safely operate yard tractors and semi-trucks to move trailers in and out of dock doors and throughout the yard
Back trailers into dock doors, often with limited space and adjacent trailers
Hook and unhook trailers, ensuring proper alignment and secure connections
Operate warehouse equipment as needed, including pallet jacks, manual jacks, and forklifts
Clean trailers before or after movement, including sweeping or washing as required
Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections on tractors and trailers
Monitor and adjust temperature settings on refrigerated trailers based on load requirements
Ensure vehicles have proper and current inspections
Maintain vehicle cleanliness, safety, security, and overall condition
Responsible for vehicle safety and contents
Comply with DOT regulations and company safety policies
Maintain accurate delivery and movement records
