About The Position

The Central Scheduler is responsible for coordinating and scheduling outpatient and inpatient services across hospital departments, including imaging, surgery, therapy, laboratory, and specialty clinics. This position plays a key role in ensuring timely access to care and clear communication between patients, providers, and hospital departments. The Central Scheduler must be adaptable and able to manage multiple service lines with accuracy, efficiency, and professionalism. Experience working in a healthcare field is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

Receive and process scheduling requests via phone, fax, electronic systems, or in person.
Accurately schedule outpatient and inpatient procedures and appointments in accordance with department protocols and physician orders.
Coordinate appointment times with departments such as radiology, lab, surgery, physical therapy, and specialty clinics.
Confirm appointments with patients and provide pre-visit instructions (e.g., fasting, medication restrictions).
Answer incoming calls and respond to scheduling inquiries in a courteous, helpful manner.
Serve as a liaison between referring providers, clinical departments, and patients.
Verify the completeness of physician orders and documentation prior to scheduling.
Confirm patient demographics, insurance information, and authorization/pre-certification requirements at time of scheduling.
Document all scheduling activities accurately in the hospital's electronic scheduling system and/or EHR.
Collaborate with Patient Access, Registration, and Revenue Cycle teams to ensure smooth patient flow.
Notify departments of cancellations, delays, or changes in schedule.
May assist with insurance verification, referrals, or prior authorization processes, as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
