About The Position

Responsible for decontamination, cleaning, processing and sterilization of supplies and equipment used in all departments of the hospital. Must be conscientious with regards to procedures and capable of working under pressure and interacting professionally with other departments within the hospital and with doctor’s offices. Must be able to accept new ideas and learn position duties. Reports to OR Lead Material Coordinator. Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Demonstrates competency in written and oral communication.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and push loads for long periods of time.

Nice To Haves

  • Central Sterile Certification preferred.
  • Experience working as a central sterile technician for greater than 1 year preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Processing, storage and distribution of reusable instrumentation and equipment.
  • Decontamination of items; disassemble and manually clean or process through automated processes.
  • Proper loading and operation of automated process for decontamination.
  • Knowledge of high and intermediate level disinfection procedures, including glutaraldehyde and isopropyl alcohol.

  • Proper Identification of reusable instrumentation and equipment and the department to which they belong.
  • Assemble, inspect and package items for sterilization, maintaining correct tray counts.
  • Sterilize instruments, equipment, linen and supplies using various types of sterilizing processes, load sterilizer in prescribed manner and set controls to specified time and temperature according to the type of items being sterilized.
  • Use knowledge of sterilization processes to monitor and complete appropriate documentation before and after sterilization processes, read and initial printouts to verify all requirements have been met.
  • Insure proper operation of autoclave units prior to use on a daily basis by use of Air Removal Test, and document appropriately.
  • Run biological tests, including self-contained and non-self-contained; document all results in appropriate logs.
  • Able to work closely with others in positive ways.
  • Maintain assigned work areas and equipment in a clean and organized condition to maintain required standards for handling sterilized and clean materials and to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Assign priority to emergency requests.
  • Assist with monitoring and maintaining stock and fill dispensing containers.
  • Stores all supplies and equipment in appropriate location.
  • Dispense processed items to correct location.
  • Assist in orientation of new employees to each work assignment area and total department operation.
  • Attend departmental meetings and in-service education.
  • Performs other related work as required or requested.
