The Certification Engineer (CE) will work within the engineering department to manage the FAA certification efforts for new and existing products from all product families. The CE will work with company ODA administrator in securing FAA STC, PMA and/or TSO approvals and support OE customers pursuing TC certification. The CE will develop detailed certification schedules, write qualification plans, certification test plans and reports, manage data transfer between the organization and the FAA and oversee all aspects associated with certification efforts. In addition, the CE will develop and maintain all requirements of an FAA ODAR approval. The CE position will require a high degree of interaction with technical and professional persons both within and outside of the organization requiring the candidate possess effective written and verbal communication abilities. The candidate must be a team player with a high degree of professionalism and self-motivation. The CE reports to the Vice President of Engineering.

Requirements

  • 5 years minimum experience in aviation technical field (engineering preferred)
  • 5 years minimum experience in project or program management
  • Experience working with FAA STC, PMA, & TSO regulatory requirements
  • Strong technical and business communications writing skills
  • Ability to understand technical/engineering data
  • Fluent with PC software tools
  • Regulatory Literacy: deep familiarity with 14 CFR Part 21 (Certification Procedures) and Part 23 (Airworthiness Standards for General Aviation).
  • Technical Writing & Synthesis: ability to review formal engineering reports and confirm demonstration of compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Project Management: ability to track and manage multiple tasks such as conformity inspections, and data approvals simultaneously.
  • Relationship Management: skill in personal diplomacy enabling motivation of process task owners to action while maintaining a professional, high-integrity relationship with the ODA Administrator and Unit Members.
  • Attention to Detail: ability to spot a missing signature or an incorrectly referenced ASTM standard in a 100-page compliance matrix before it reaches the ODA.
  • Associates in Applied Science
  • Bachelor degree in technical field preferred

Responsibilities

  • Write technical documents, business correspondence, procedures related to organization certification activity
  • Develop schedules and manage FAA certification programs
  • Interact with the FAA authorities to efficiently secure certification approvals
  • Coordinate certification activities with all departments within the organization
  • Work with cross functional teams to resolve technical issues related to certification efforts
  • Review technical data including drawings, specifications, and manuals
  • Remain up to date on latest trends and practices relating to FAA regulations and certification practices
