As a Certified CS/SPD Technician, you will play a key role in how our operating rooms care for our patients as the whole team relies on you to successfully set up the operating room. Certified CS/SPD Technicians receive ample support, training and education, including learning how to operate the latest, state-of-the-art processing equipment and using the newest sterilization tools and concepts. By taking on this role, you will have a major impact on patient care by helping to ensure the safety and health of the patient. A caregiver in this position works evenings from 3:00PM – 11:30PM, with weekend and holiday requirements.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Sterile Processing certification (e.g., CRCST, CSPDT, CFER, or CER)
  • Proficient in using computerized instrument tracking systems
  • Military experience, such as Hospital Corpsmen (HM), Machinery Repairman (MR), Aircraft Maintenance Technician (2A3X3), Biomedical Equipment Specialist (68A), Small Arms Repairer (91F), or similar, will be considered

Nice To Haves

  • Two to five years of experience in central service/sterile processing areas
  • Completion of a recognized training program with certification in central service/sterile processing
  • Basic computer skills

Responsibilities

  • Be responsible for the safe, efficient practices for decontamination, instrument assembly, wrapping and sterilization of all reprocessed instruments, equipment distribution and case cart management.
  • Perform case pull functions.
  • Demonstrate proper handling of equipment, instrumentation and chemicals while adhering to preventative maintenance schedules and personal protective equipment (PPE) standards during the decontamination process.
  • Scan, sort and inspect instruments for functionality and cleanliness.
  • Assemble, wrap and label instruments.
  • Ensure proper cleaning, decontamination, assembly and high-level disinfection of reusable instrumentation in accordance with AAMI ST79 standards.
  • Monitor and control the distribution of supplies and equipment.
  • Perform recordkeeping functions, such as processing, sterilization and quality assurance.
  • Participate in in-service education.
  • Build case carts using electronic preference cards and dispatch them to appropriate locations.
  • Perform preceptor duties and assist in educating non-certified technicians.
