Holton Wellness Clinic, Lyon Park Clinic, and Walltown Neighborhood Clinic are community-based sites that partner with Lincoln Community Health Center to deliver compassionate, high-quality care to individuals and families who may face barriers such as limited insurance coverage, financial hardship, or access challenges. These clinics provide comprehensive, affordable services to a diverse patient population, including insured, uninsured, underinsured, low-income, non-English-speaking, and medically underserved individuals, while ensuring coordinated and seamless care across the communities we serve. Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. What you will do: As a Certified Medical Assistant you will perform routine administrative and patient care support duties in a community-based medical practice to assist medical staff with the examination and treatment of patients and to support administrative operations to ensure efficient clinic workflow.

Requirements

  • Strong customer service skills required; bilingual candidates preferred not required.
  • One year of experience preferred not required
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, typically acquired through a high school education and completion of a medical assistant program.
  • Working knowledge of sterile techniques, infection control procedures, and safety precautions applicable to a clinical setting.
  • Knowledge of sanitation, personal hygiene, and basic health and safety standards.
  • Demonstrated age-specific competencies.
  • Familiarity with daily clinic preparation processes, including registration, scheduling, charge posting, order entry, documentation, and communication of pertinent information.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients and clinic staff.
  • Proficiency in typing and use of electronic medical records.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Levels II and III -- Ability to independently seek out resources and work collaboratively
  • Level I -- Graduation from accredited Medical Assistant program strongly preferred. High school or GED graduation required.
  • Level II -- Graduation from a medical assistant program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) strongly preferred. High school or GED graduation required.
  • Level III -- Graduation from a medical assistant program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) strongly preferred. High school or GED graduation required.
  • Level IV -- Graduation from a medical assistant program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) strongly preferred. High school or GED graduation required.
  • Level I -- No experience required.
  • Level II -- 1 year of clinical experience as a Medical Assistant, Certified in a clinical setting.
  • Level III -- 2 years of clinical experience as a Medical Assistant, Certified in a clinical setting.
  • Level IV -- 3 years of clinical experience as a Medical Assistant, Certified in a clinical setting.
  • Note: 1 year of experience will be provided for an Associate degree in Medical Assisting.
  • General Ladder Statement: In addition to the education and experience noted, applicants must meet all requirements set forth in the Medical Assistant, Certified (CMA/RMA) Ladder Program document for Levels II, III, and IV.
  • Level I -- Certification by AAMA, AMT, NHA-CCMA, NCMA or ARMA required. BLS required.
  • Level II -- Certification by AAMA, AMT, NHA-CCMA, NCMA or ARMA required. BLS required.
  • Level III -- Certification by AAMA, AMT, NHA-CCMA, NCMA or ARMA required. BLS required.

Responsibilities

  • Take medical histories, document vital signs, explain treatment procedures to patients, and prepare patients for examinations and procedures.
  • Provide clinical support to Advanced Practice Providers by preparing patient rooms for examinations and procedures and serving as a chaperone as needed.
  • Collect and prepare laboratory specimens and perform basic point-of-care laboratory testing on site.
  • Administer vaccinations and documents in the North Carolina Immunization Registry (NCIR) in accordance with policy and protocol.
  • Perform clinical support tasks including preparing and recording EKGs, assisting with suture removal, performing ear lavage, assisting provider in joint injections, and completing sterile and non-sterile dressing changes.
  • Maintain infection control standards through proper disposal of contaminated supplies; reinforce patient and family education related to the plan of care; and accurately document clinical activities in the medical record.
  • Support and maintain clinical inbox management to ensure timely review and response to patient communications and provider tasks. Queue medication refill requests and telephone prescription request in Epic for provider completion.
  • Demonstrate the ability and willingness to commute between multiple clinic locations to support clinic operations.
  • Serve as a point of contact for patients by answering telephones, returning voicemails, and addressing medical questions within scope of practice and clinic protocols.
  • Update and maintain accurate patient demographic and clinical information in the medical record.
  • Knowledge and familiarization of prior authorizations for medications and durable medical equipment.
  • Confidently function as the primary and sole clinical support for an Advanced Practice Provider, exercising sound judgment and the ability to work independently.
