About The Position

Inspired by the teachings of Jesus Christ, the mission of Cardinal Ritter Senior Services is to be a recognized provider in giving person centered care through an integrated continuum of quality residential, healthcare, and supportive social services for senior adults throughout the Archdiocese of Saint Louis. Position SummaryFunctions as a Certified Medication Technician (CMT) for CRSS Skilled Nursing Communities.Administers and documents medications by all routes except for intramuscular andsubcutaneous injections, with the exception of insulin. Assist residents who are functionally,physically, and or socially impaired and need 24-hour protective oversight and assist residentswith activities of daily living, housekeeping, and cleaning duties. All responsibilities will beconducted in a manner that is consistent with the philosophy of Cardinal Ritter Senior Services.Overview & Responsibilities• Prepares, administers, and records medication by all routes except those given by the parenteral route.• Observes, evaluates, reports, and records response of the resident to medications given.• Relates side effects, interactions, and nursing implications of medications.• Identifies responsibilities associated with control and storage of medications.• Utilizes appropriate reference materials.• Identifies what constitutes a medication error. Notifies nurse of medication errors.• Safeguards medication preparation and storage area.• Reorders and removes unused medications according to policy. Notifies nurse of need for reorder of controlled medications, missing medications, etc.• Responsible for requisition and credit of medications. Pulls stat labels for reorder. Initials and dates label for reorder.• Identifies lines of authority and areas of responsibility.• Administers oxygen by nasal cannula.• Monitors and Assist with Resident Call Lights.• Reports to nurse at the beginning of the shift to receive assignment and report.• Reports and records immediately untoward effects or therapeutic effects of medications.• Maintains an accurate account of controlled substances.• Accounts for medication keys by signing for keys at the beginning of shift.• Accounts for controlled medications by counting and signing off with the incoming shift.• Administers specified treatments and records.• Receives medications from pharmacy when delivered, checking contents against receipt and signing for medications with the exception of controlled meds, for which a licensed nurse must sign.• Participates in monthly medication exchange. Evening CMTs will remove medication and auxiliary sheets after the last pass of the evening before the exchange.• Performs and records vital signs as ordered by the physician or as requested by the RN or LPN. Takes and records pulses and BP as ordered at the time medication is to be given. Will assist with monthly vital signs and weights.• Passes nourishments in a timely manner according to policy.• Reports observations to the RN or LPN to assist with the nursing care plan.• Demonstrates knowledge of infection control policies at all times. Maintains a safe, clean environment (including medication room and cart, galley, and refrigerators) and careful use of supplies and equipment.• Attends staff meetings and in-services as assigned.• Is knowledgeable of fire and disaster procedures and functions as directed.• Checks weekly for resident name bands and proper working of code alert bracelets.• The day shift CMTs are responsible for recording weights and vital signs in the resident’s chart.• Assists the RN or LPN as requested.• Performs other duties as assigned.Knowledge & Experience Requirements• Must be a Certified Nursing Assistant and in good standing in the state of Missouri.• Must have successfully completed the Certified Medication Technician training program for the state of Missouri and be in good standing.• Must have successfully completed or be willing to complete the Insulin Administration Program within three months of hire.• Must have current CPR certification or be willing to become CPR certified.• Maintains all certification required for employment qualifications• Able to perform duties with minimal direction from the Director of Nursing.• Electronic Health Record literate.Skills & Competencies Required• Observe, report and record response of residents to medication.• Administer oxygen by nasal canula as needed and oxygen safety.• Blood glucose monitoring• Urine and stool specimen collection• Must have good interpersonal communication skills.• Must be genuinely interested in working with Senior Adults.• Must be able to maintain confidentiality, loyalty, integrity, dignity and be tactful and patient.• Must possess personal qualities that demonstrate the ability to care for others, i.e. sensitivity, patience, honesty, cheerfulness, willingness, reliability, positive attitude and observation skills.• Must have initiative and use good judgment in recognizing symptoms indicative of a resident’s change in condition.• Must be neat and clean in personal appearance and grooming.• Must be in good physical and emotional health.• Must be able to perform the physical/ mental functions/requirements of the position.Resources for Which Accountable• Responsible for the care, safety and wellbeing of the residents.• Utilizes supplies and other assets in a prudent manner.Cardinal Ritter Senior Services does not discriminate on the basis of handicapped status in the admission or access to, or treatment or employment in, its federally assisted programs and activities.
