Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Role Summary Howard University Hospital seeks to hire a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) who will support safe, compassionate, and high-quality patient care across various nursing units. Working under the direction of a Registered Nurse, the CNA assists in delivering direct patient care, maintaining a safe environment, and supporting patient comfort and well-being. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Completion of an approved Nursing Assistant training program.
  • Minimum six (6) months of experience as a Nursing Assistant or Nursing Technician.
  • Current District of Columbia Nursing Assistant Certification (or ability to obtain prior to start date).
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Ability to perform basic nursing skills and safely use patient care equipment.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with patient admissions and discharges, including room preparation, orientation, specimen collection, and patient transport.
  • Collect and document vital signs and physiological data for nursing assessment and care planning.
  • Report observed changes in patient condition promptly to the team leader or charge nurse.
  • Perform nursing care activities in accordance with established guidelines, including intake/output measurement, surgical preps, non-sterile dressings, specimen collection, ambulation, turning, positioning, and transporting patients.
  • Provide personal hygiene support, grooming assistance, bed making, and bedside environment organization.
  • Support care of patients requiring acute or intensive care and those utilizing assistive devices.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and comfortable environment, including cleaning patient care equipment and surfaces.
  • Transport and assemble patient care equipment as needed.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service focused on patient safety, comfort, and satisfaction.
  • Participate in unit, departmental, and hospital education and compliance activities.
