Position Highlights: Sign on bonus: (if applicable) Position: Location: [City, IL] Full Time/Part Time: [Full Time / Part Time] Hours: Monday-Friday, [hours and flexible work schedules] Required Travel: A Brief Overview: Responsible for decontaminating, cleaning, assembling, sterilizing, storing, and distributing surgical instruments, medical equipment, and supplies to surgical suites, procedural areas, and clinical departments according to established procedures, AAMI standards, and manufacturer Instructions for Use (IFUs). Supports quality assurance processes, inventory management, vendor coordination, flexible scope cleaning validation, and case cart preparation. Promotes effective communication, safety, and compliance with infection control policies and regulatory requirements. What you will do: Decontaminates reusable surgical instruments, patient care equipment, and flexible scopes following instructions for use (IFUs) and infection control practices. Operates washers, ultrasonic cleaners, and decontamination equipment. Assembles and inspects instrument sets, surgical trays, and case carts for scheduled procedures. Identifies and reports missing, damaged, or malfunctioning equipment. Performs sterilization using steam, low-temperature (plasma), and/or gas sterilizers. Conducts and documents biological, chemical, and mechanical monitoring for sterilization efficacy. Utilizes instrument tracking systems and OR scheduling software (e.g., ORSOS) for documentation, equipment tracking, and workflow management. Participates in inventory control, rotates supplies, manages loaner instrumentation, and assists with vendor coordination and equipment returns. Performs overnight duties as needed, including patient equipment distribution, linen cart management, and basic patient-care equipment rental tracking. Communicates shift hand-offs through reporting tools, documents incomplete tasks, equipment issues, and supply shortages. Attends huddles and staff meetings to support departmental goals and quality initiatives. May assist with orientation and training of Sterile Processing Technician staff as needed. Maintains up-to-date knowledge and professional certification requirements. May be asked to transport trays between locations

Requirements

  • GED/High School Equivalent required
  • Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) or International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM) strongly preferred
  • Two years of sterile processing or operating room experience in surgical instrumentation preferred
  • High School Required
  • Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) - Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) required upon hire
  • Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) - Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) required upon hire Required

Nice To Haves

  • 1 Year Minimum of 1 year of sterile processing experience preferred, including experience with complex instrumentation and electronic tracking systems.
  • Advanced knowledge of sterilization and high-level disinfection techniques, infection control practices, and surgical instrumentation.
  • Ability to function independently and perform in a lead/charge capacity when required.
  • Skilled in using electronic instrument tracking systems and interpreting sterilization indicator results accurately.
  • A valid driver’s license is required if the incumbent is selected to transport instrument trays with a motorized vehicle (i.e. utility vehicle).
  • A safe driving record is required.
