About The Position

Bon Secours Surgery Center at Harbour View is seeking a Part Time Surgical Assistant. We are a busy multispecialty surgery center serving Northern Suffolk and an affiliate of United Surgical Partners International (USPI). The Surgical Assistant is responsible for all departmental functions in support of USPI’s mission, vision, and facility goals. This position establishes effective working relationships with all constituencies including patients, physicians, employees, volunteers and vendors. The Surgical Assistant scrubs for surgical procedures and demonstrates competence while working with leadership in meeting facility safety, quality, customer service, and financial goals. Requirements

Must possess a strong knowledge of surgical procedures and management of the surgical patient
Independent decision making skills - ability to quickly adapt to changing conditions of the patient when needed

Responsibilities

Possess a working knowledge of operating room procedures with respect to attire, infection control, sterile technique, maintaining integrity of the sterile field and draping the surgical patient within the surgeon’s guidelines.
Provide operating room support to physicians and surgeons, including assisting surgeons during procedures.
Understanding of aseptic techniques and their implementation
Communicates effectively and courteously with visitors, physicians, and their office staff, patients, and employees.
Maintains patient, physician, and employee privacy and confidentiality per policy.
Complies with Policies & Procedures and adheres to safety guidelines to ensure a safe work and patient care environment.
Serves as a resource to other members of the health care team.
