About The Position

The Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) is responsible for assisting orthopedic surgeons and the surgical team in both clinic-based procedures and hospital/outpatient operating room settings. The CST ensures a sterile environment, prepares surgical instruments and equipment, and provides direct intraoperative support to optimize patient safety and surgical outcomes.

Requirements

• Current Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential required.
• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program.
• Current BLS certification.
• Strong understanding of sterile technique and infection control standards.
• Knowledge of orthopedic procedures (e.g., arthroscopy, total joint replacement, fracture repair).
• Ability to anticipate surgeon needs.
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Nice To Haves

• Minimum 1–2 years of orthopedic surgical experience preferred.
• Experience with orthopedic instrumentation and implants strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain sterile surgical fields.
• Ensure all necessary instruments, implants, and equipment (including orthopedic trays, power tools, and specialty devices) are available and functioning.
• Assist with patient positioning, prepping, and draping according to surgeon preference and procedural requirements.
• Anticipate surgeon needs based on knowledge of orthopedic procedures.
• Perform surgical counts with circulating nurse per policy.
• Pass instruments, sutures, and supplies to the surgeon efficiently and accurately.
• Maintain sterile technique at all times.
• Handle orthopedic equipment such as drills, saws, C-arm coordination, and implant systems.
• Assist with wound closure and application of dressings and splints.
• Monitor and communicate equipment or supply needs during procedures.
• Assist with breakdown and cleaning of surgical field.
• Ensure proper handling and transport of instruments for sterilization.
• Participate in surgical debrief and documentation as required.
• Restock and prepare operating room for subsequent cases.
