About The Position

Tufts Medical Center’s Department of Radiology is seeking a Department Chair of Radiology to join our growing Department in the heart of downtown Boston. The Chair will be responsible for leading all teaching and research activities within the Department, including medical students and graduate medical educational programs. The Chair will be charged with creating and implementing a strategic vision for the Department. The Department of Radiology at Tufts Medical Center (TMC) provides high-level academic radiology services in the heart of downtown Boston. TMC is a level-I trauma center with expanding transplant services including live donor liver transplant, renal, and cardiac transplants. Advanced cardiac imaging services are also growing in collaboration with the Cardiology department. Neuroradiology with advanced imaging techniques and state-of-the-art MRI scanner is also our strong point. We provide exceptional cancer patient care through multiple service lines including thoracic, breast, GI, GU, hepatobiliary, hem/onc, GYN, head and neck, and CNS. Moreover, we provide comprehensive imaging services covering Chest, Abdominal, MSK, Breast, and Nuclear Medicine imaging. We have an ACGME-accredited Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program with a complement of 22. Residents gain a wide variety of experiences, particularly from trauma, stroke, transplant, and cancer imaging. We received “continued accreditation” by ACGME this year. Our department offers ESIR pathway for interested residents. Our department currently has two fellowship programs (ACGME NST programs) – MRI fellowship and Emergency and Trauma Radiology Fellowship. Interested physician candidates should have continued interest in growing a successful department, expanding academic pursuits and excellent management and interpersonal skills to lead a Department in a top tier academic medical center. Interested candidates should also have a track record of personal academic accomplishments, demonstrated successful administrative and leadership experience at an academic institution as the Department Chair, Division Chief or Section Head. We are the principal teaching hospital of Tufts University School of Medicine. The Department Chair of Radiology holds an endowed position as the Alice Ettinger – Jack R. Dreyfuss Chair and Professor of Radiology. Our close relationship with TUSM allows the Chair and faculty access to the resources to build excellence in education and research, contributing to the School’s missions of diversity, community impact, and health equity. The Chair of Radiology will promote the continual assessment of health equity across the Department, and partner with an administrative leadership dyad to establish strategies and tactics that ensure equitable access for all populations and communities to radiology services at Tufts Medicine. With anticipated growth of academic radiology at Tufts Medical Center and system-wide radiology within the Tufts Medicine System, there will be an expansion of services and imaging volumes in the near future, allowing the Chair to craft the Department’s clinical service to be a regional, national and international leader. Our service line includes: Abdominal Imaging Cardiothoracic/Cardiovascular Imaging Emergency Radiology (which provides evening coverage) Neuroradiology Nuclear Medicine Mammography Musculoskeletal Imaging Limited Pediatric Imaging (mainly NICU)

Requirements

  • Interested candidates should also have a track record of personal academic accomplishments, demonstrated successful administrative and leadership experience at an academic institution as the Department Chair, Division Chief or Section Head.
  • Excellent track record of productivity in academic radiology to drive the mission of the Department
  • Experiences in leading and executing projects related to clinical operations in an academic radiology department
  • Track record of successfully mentoring trainees and faculty
  • Demonstrated ability to reject status quo and willingness to accept risks and uncertainties to execute change
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with technologists, nurses, and admin staff
  • Courage to do the right thing for the department
  • Strong commitment to the departmental culture of ‘help each other’ to provide excellent patient care
  • A physician executive leader with a successful track record of program development and academic success in radiology programs
  • A mentor with a proven track record of supporting the professional and academic accomplishments of others
  • Board certified in at least one radiology specialty
  • Eligible for an academic appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor level
  • Knowledgeable in healthcare quality, resource/financial management of a large organization, outcomes improvement, patient safety, and positive patient experience
  • Able to build and foster effective teams that are diverse and inclusive and that are focused on advancing the Vision and Mission of the Radiology Department and respective services
  • Capable of promoting an environment of accountability and continuous performance improvement by establishing and monitoring concrete performance measures to drive achievement of targeted outcomes
  • Committed to network development, growth, operational efficiency, and system integration across academic and community-based practices
  • An innovative thinker regarding the future of academic medicine and community engagement
