About The Position

Are you a proven perioperative nurse leader ready to guide teams through some of the most critical moments in patient care? Join Hoag as a Charge Nurse, where clinical expertise, leadership, and compassion come together to shape the future of surgical care. In this pivotal role, you will provide clinical and operational leadership for the perioperative unit during your assigned shift. You’ll ensure safe, efficient, and exceptional patient care while supporting, mentoring, and supervising nursing staff. Your leadership will directly impact patient outcomes, team performance, and the overall success of the Surgical Pavilion.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical supervision of patient care for all patients in the perioperative department
  • Ensure delivery of care in accordance with the Standards of Nursing Care, the Nurse Practice Act, and evidence-based practice
  • Utilize the nursing process to promote optimal patient outcomes before, during, and after surgery
  • Provide direct patient care as needed, including relieving staff to ensure continuity of care
  • Collaborate with physicians, anesthesia, and interdisciplinary teams to manage complex clinical situations
  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee daily unit operations to ensure safe staffing and patient flow
  • Manage staff schedules and patient assignments to support high-quality, efficient care
  • Serve as the primary clinical and operational resource during the assigned shift
  • Address and escalate patient care, staffing, or operational concerns as appropriate
  • Provide job performance supervision for all staff on the assigned shift
  • Conduct annual performance evaluations and ongoing coaching and counseling conversations
  • Support onboarding, training, and professional development of nursing staff
  • Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement
  • Serve as a departmental leader and role model for professional nursing practice
  • Make recommendations related to hiring, department budgets, education, and training needs
  • Promote evidence-based practice, quality improvement, and patient safety initiatives
  • Support organizational goals through effective communication and collaboration
