About The Position

The Charge Nurse coordinates, delegates, monitors and evaluates unit activities during assigned shift. Makes staff assignments, serves as resource to other staff, participates in performance improvement activities, ensures standards of care are maintained and represents nursing administration. Through utilization of the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation) provides patient care to a select group of patients. This job description indicates the general nature and level of work expected of the incumbent. Requirements

  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse by the State of North Carolina
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
  • Associate Degree in Nursing required; Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred
  • Skill and proficiency in the principles, concepts and techniques of nursing and management
  • Two to four years of progressive nursing experience in a healthcare environment
  • Demonstrated clinical competency as a professional nurse
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and/or advanced education in leadership

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred

Responsibilities

  • Manage daily unit operations to ensure safe, high‑quality, and efficient patient care
  • Assign, supervise, and adjust staff based on competency, experience, and patient acuity
  • Oversee patient care delivery, including assessments, care planning, interventions, and evaluations
  • Coordinate patient admissions, transfers, discharges, and interdisciplinary collaboration
  • Monitor patient conditions, intervene in crises, and communicate significant changes to leadership and physicians
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, infection control practices, and emergency procedures
  • Lead and support staff during emergencies, drills, and routine unit operations
  • Participate in performance improvement activities, audits, and incident/variance reporting
  • Assist with staff performance evaluations, discipline, education, and ongoing professional development
  • Educate patients, families, and staff while serving as a professional role model and mentor
