About The Position

Operates chemical reactors, distillation units, and related equipment used in the development of new manufacturing processes or to improve existing ones, both in the laboratory and in the Pilot Plant.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years experience as a Chemical Operator or as a Laboratory Technician.
  • High school graduate.
  • Ability to push, pull, or shove 500-lbs, with assistance from available mechanical devices.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks.
  • Ability to interact with computer controls and computer controlled equipment.
  • Should take and pass boiler operator’s license within 6 to 12 months.
  • Work steady 4-12 shift, work 8-4 or 12-8 shift as needed to cover special situations.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience or knowledge in handling chemicals.
  • Experience with and knowledge of laboratory, pilot plant or plant chemical operations.
  • Involvement with a Safety, Fire Brigade, or other Emergency Response Team.
  • Working Knowledge of SAP

Responsibilities

  • Follow procedures to operate stills, reactors, lab equipment and auxiliary process equipment. Monitor processes, log data, and adjust process conditions as specified. Train to operate computer controlled equipment. Start-up, operate and monitor utilities in the pilot plant.
  • Train to provide backup support for specialized equipment such as instrumented lab reactors.
  • Individual will be expected to work unsupervised and handle unexpected situations on the off-shift after training is complete. Also use judgment to identify and resolve problems; report all operating problems to supervisor or working foreperson.
  • Set up laboratory and pilot plant equipment for operation. Check equipment for cleanliness and operability.
  • Material and chemical handling duties: move chemical drums within the pilot plant, fill and bulk containers, load, charge, and feed into reactors, take, analyze, and interpret process samples by Gas chromatography. Check and verify raw materials.
  • Take responsibility for maintaining the equipment and general housekeeping.
  • Conduct all operations safely; practice safe working habits. Follow strict safety and regulatory procedures at all times. Use appropriate personal protective equipment as specified. Monitor required equipment to operate within regulatory guidelines.
  • Maintain GMP environment in the lab and pilot plant.
