About The Position

Davidson is seeking a Chief Engineer/Deputy Program Manager to support the SCALE (Supply Chain Analytics and Logistics Environment) development program in Huntsville, AL. SCALE is a data-driven analytics platform integrating procurement, logistics, and forecasting operations to enable predictive and prescriptive decision-making for the Department of Defense. This individual is a seasoned leader with a talent for effective communication across all stakeholders, including USG customers, Prime Contractors, Suppliers, and internal functional teams. The Chief Engineer will own the technical vision, architecture, and execution of the SCALE platform. Acting as the technical leader and product advocate, you will guide a multidisciplinary cross-functional team including software developers, data analysts, data engineers, and cybersecurity professionals, focused on building a secure, scalable, and data-driven environment supporting enterprise-level analytics and AI readiness. This role demands a blend of deep engineering expertise, strategic foresight, leadership and hands‑on execution, and will provide critical support to the Program Manager.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field (Master's/Ph.D. preferred)
  • 12+ years of progressive software engineering experience in data‑intensive, high‑integrity environments
  • 5+ years of senior leadership (engineering manager, director, or VP) in a matrixed organization
  • Proficient in Python, Java, C++
  • Candidate must have a proven track record delivering mission‑critical systems to defense or regulated customers
  • Successful candidate will have architecture experience: micro‑services, event‑driven, data‑centric, cloud‑native
  • Familiarity with SQL and database integration (SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or similar)
  • Exposure to AWS, Azure, or hybrid cloud architectures
  • Exceptional communication & stakeholder-management
  • Demonstrated experience in managing projects to meet cost, schedule, and performance requirements
  • Demonstrated experience in proposal development, preferably with Miller Heiman capture methodologies
  • Ability to craft compelling presentations and reports
  • Experience working SaaS platforms
  • Must currently hold a DoD Secret security clearance with ability to obtain a Top-Secret clearance

Nice To Haves

  • Experience integrating Power BI or similar visualization platforms through back-end data services or APIs
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration
  • Familiarity with data-centric applications or enterprise reporting environments
  • Understanding of DevSecOps pipelines, automated testing, and infrastructure-as-code
  • Knowledge and application of Risk and Opportunity Management
  • PMP certification or Project Management certification
  • Experience working with Air Force customers
