About The Position

The Chief Engineer, P.E. for the Power Division Transmission and Distribution is responsible for leading engineering operations related to electrical utility systems, including grid infrastructure, substations, and transmission and distribution lines. This role provides technical leadership, oversees complex engineering projects, ensures system reliability, and supports the integration of renewable energy sources into the power grid. The position also manages engineering staff, contracts, and compliance with all applicable regulations and standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline focused on power systems
  • Valid Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in Electrical Engineering under NCEES or equivalent standards
  • Minimum of five years of professional engineering experience in power transmission and distribution systems
  • Strong understanding of electrical utility systems, engineering and construction principles, project and contract management, and applicable laws and regulations
  • Ability to supervise and evaluate staff effectively
  • Strong project management and organizational skills
  • Proficiency in preparing engineering designs, plans, and technical documentation
  • Ability to interpret codes, standards, and technical specifications
  • Experience in reviewing submittals and managing construction activities
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to monitor budgets, schedules, and project performance
  • Experience in field data collection and system efficiency analysis

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and lead engineering and technical staff, including assigning work, evaluating performance, supporting training, and enforcing safety and company policies
  • Manage complex electrical engineering projects and programs related to power transmission and distribution systems
  • Develop project scopes, conduct technical reviews, prepare reports and recommendations, and oversee project scheduling, budgeting, and execution
  • Prepare engineering calculations, designs, plans, and specifications for utility infrastructure and related facilities
  • Coordinate with internal divisions and external stakeholders to ensure project alignment and efficiency
  • Oversee construction and contract management, including bid evaluations, contractor coordination, submittal reviews, and compliance with technical specifications
  • Conduct field inspections and evaluate contractor work to ensure adherence to project requirements
  • Compile and analyze engineering data to support decision making and reporting on current and future projects
  • Support the development and integration of renewable energy systems such as solar, wind, and biofuels into the power grid
  • Ensure compliance with federal, commonwealth, and local regulations, codes, and standards
  • Perform other related duties to support power system planning, grid reliability, and operational efficiency
