About The Position

The Chief Engineer is responsible for the overall maintenance, safety, and operational efficiency of the hotel’s physical plant and systems. This role ensures the hotel is maintained to brand standards, operates efficiently, and provides a safe and comfortable environment for guests and associates. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with strong technical knowledge of hotel systems, preventative maintenance programs, vendor management, and experience managing hotel renovations or capital projects.

Requirements

  • 3–5+ years of engineering or maintenance leadership experience, preferably in a hotel environment.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems.
  • Hotel renovation or capital project experience preferred.
  • Experience managing preventative maintenance programs and work order systems.
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations, building codes, and compliance standards.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and emergency calls if needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a Marriott-branded hotel environment.
  • Certifications in HVAC, electrical, or building maintenance are a plus.
  • Experience overseeing capital improvement projects or property improvement plans (PIPs).

Responsibilities

  • Engineering Budget & CapEx Management: Develop and manage the department operating budget, control expenses, track utilities, and assist ownership with capital planning and execution of property improvement projects.
  • Guest Room Availability: Partner with housekeeping and front office to minimize out-of-order rooms, prioritize guest-impact repairs, and maintain brand-standard room readiness.
  • Emergency & Life Safety Leadership: Lead response to building emergencies, including fire systems, flooding, power loss, and mechanical failures, ensuring full compliance with Marriott and local safety regulations.
  • Vendor Contract & Service Oversight: Manage and negotiate service contracts for elevators, fire/life safety systems, HVAC, kitchen equipment, and other critical building systems, ensuring vendor performance and cost control.
  • Maintenance Systems & Preventive Programs: Utilize maintenance/work-order systems to track repairs, enforce preventive maintenance schedules, maintain asset records, and reduce equipment downtime.
  • Oversee all building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and guestroom equipment.
  • Lead engineering team operations, including scheduling, work orders, and supervision.
  • Conduct regular property inspections to identify repair needs and maintain quality in guest rooms and public areas.
  • Ensure the property maintains brand standards and compliance requirements for Marriott and local regulations.
  • Respond to guest maintenance concerns promptly and ensure satisfactory resolution.
