About The Position

Greenbush – The Southeast Kansas Education Service Center is seeking applications for a Chief Financial Officer at Russell Child Development Center in Garden City, KS. Anticipated Start Date: 04/01/2026. Job Summary: The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) supports the Chief Executive Officer, Board of Directors, and Program Directors by providing strategic and operational financial leadership. This position oversees financial planning, budgeting, reporting, and compliance to ensure the effective implementation and sustainability of agency programs. The CFO is responsible for processing, recording, reconciling, and analyzing fiscal information; developing and monitoring budgets; providing fiscal guidance and recommendations; and preparing accurate, timely financial reports to support informed decision-making.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field
  • Job-related experience within the specialized field
  • Valid driver’s license for employment
  • Successful completion of the RCDC Defensive Driving course
  • Background clearance

  • Minimum five-years of experience managing multiple budgets, including state, federal, endowment, and grant dollars.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
  • Analyze financial information, identifying potential budget variances, compile statistical information, develop procedures, to established financial practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Compile a variety of financial information related to work assignments (e.g., receipts, invoices, cross charges between accounts/programs, etc.), providing required documentation and/or processing information.
  • Maintain financial information, files, and records, ensuring compliance with established policies and regulatory guidelines, including an audit trail for compliance with agency, local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Monitors account balances and related financial activity, ensuring allocations are accurate, related revenues are generated, expenses are within budget limits, and/or fiscal practices are followed.
  • Prepare written materials and electronic financial information (e.g., bank deposits, transfer of money/investments, checks, reports, etc.), complying with established financial and legal requirements.
  • Provide orientation and support to other departmental personnel regarding procedures and program requirements, ensuring efficient processing in compliance with agency policy and established regulatory guidelines.
  • Recommend policies, procedures, or actions on issues that relate to accounting functions, providing direction and/or decision-making.
  • Reconcile financial data and keep accurate account balances to ensure compliance with budgets.
  • Research financial discrepancies (e.g., purchase orders, invoices, accounts payable, etc.) to ensure accuracy and adhere to established practices.
  • Attend all Board of Directors meetings; record minutes, and provide fiscal updates.
  • Maintain timely documentation.
  • Support the mission, goals, and objectives of RCDC.
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality as outlined by FERPA and HIPAA.
  • Ability to work alone and in groups to provide services.
  • Assume responsibility for individual professional growth by staying current with research and practices.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in effectively and regularly communicating with other employees of RCDC and clients.
  • Complete all assignments promptly, including communication with other staff, clients, or contractors.
  • Adhere to all professional guidelines as outlined in agency policies.
  • Independently manage daily assignments and activities, ensuring performance outcomes are achieved within budget, timeline, department, and agency objectives.
  • Follow all safety requirements as directed by RCDC.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Executive Officer or designee.
