This strategy centers on delivering high-quality, foundational experiences for our members that alter their trajectory in life and strengthen the future of Milwaukee’s youth. Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee invites applications for a Chief Mission Advancement Officer to join our team. The Chief Mission Advancement Officer (CMAO) is a key member of the Cabinet, reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). This individual is responsible for the strategic integration and leadership of all fundraising, marketing, and government relations functions, ensuring they are aligned to advance the organization's mission and achieve its $30 million annual operating budget and strategic goals. The CMAO drives a culture of philanthropy and engagement across the organization, builds robust relationships with external stakeholders, and enhances the organization's visibility and impact.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master’s degree or relevant professional certification (e.g., CFRE) preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of senior-level experience in non-profit management, with a proven track record of success in leading comprehensive fundraising, marketing, and/or government relations functions.
  • Demonstrated experience in securing significant philanthropic gifts and/or major government grants and contracts.
  • Strong understanding of marketing and communications best practices, with experience in brand management and digital engagement.
  • Exceptional leadership and team-building skills, with the ability to manage and mentor a diverse team of professionals.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking and persuasive presentation abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive, integrated strategy for mission advancement that aligns fundraising, marketing, and government relations with the organization's overall strategic plan.
  • Serve as a primary brand ambassador, effectively communicating the organization’s mission, impact, and needs to diverse audiences, including donors, government officials, and community partners.
  • Collaborate with the CEO and Board of Directors to set ambitious, achievable goals for revenue generation and advocacy efforts.
  • Lead and inspire a high-performing development team to meet and exceed annual fundraising targets across a diversified portfolio including major gifts, institutional grants (foundation and government), annual campaigns, and planned giving.
  • Cultivate and steward relationships with key donors and major funders, personally managing a portfolio of top-tier prospects.
  • Oversee the planning and execution of capital campaigns or special initiatives as required.
  • Direct all marketing and communications efforts to ensure a consistent, compelling, and positive brand image.
  • Develop strategies to enhance the organization's visibility and reach, utilizing digital media, public relations, and traditional marketing channels effectively.
  • Ensure all external communications clearly articulate the organization's mission, impact, and value proposition to stakeholders.
  • Help lead the organization’s advocacy and government relations strategy at the local, state, and federal levels.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with elected officials, policymakers, and relevant government agencies to advocate for the organization's mission and secure public funding opportunities.
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory developments that may impact the organization, developing proactive engagement strategies.
