About The Position

Cherry County Hospital is seeking an experienced and dedicated Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) to join our leadership team. The CNO will have overall authority and responsibility for providing leadership, direction, and administration of direct patient care activities within the hospital. In this vital role, the CNO will lead efforts to drive a culture of team member engagement, quality, patient safety, fiscal responsibility, and superior patient experience. The CNO will be responsible for ensuring the nursing department operates in alignment with the hospital's philosophy, goals, and objectives.

Requirements

  • Extensive knowledge of accepted standards of nursing care
  • Ability to effectively supervise and properly motivate a large department of professional and non-professional team members
  • Knowledge of the latest nursing procedures and techniques
  • Thorough understanding of performance improvement, quality initiatives, benchmarking, and organizational scorecards
  • Knowledge of the budgeting processes necessary to effectively develop and lead the various teams and grow service lines
  • Uses good judgment in making decision regarding the adoption, implementation of new ideas
  • Skills in solving sensitive human relation problems
  • Knowledge of functions of all departments, policies, regulations, and procedures of the hospital
  • Tact in dealing with patients, personnel, medical staff and public
  • Ability to create a work environment that promotes efficiency and productivity, satisfaction, growth and development, collaboration, and teamwork
  • Excellent problem solving, communication and documentation skills are required

  • Must be able to work on-call, occasional evenings, weekends, or holidays if needed

  • Repetitive use of hands, arms, and eyes, which could result in strain
  • Environment requires working in proximity with others in a clean favorable area
  • Out-of-town travel may be required
  • BSN with an accredited school of nursing required
  • Master's degree in nursing or another appropriate postgraduate health science degree is required or proof of enrollment with a written plan to advanced degree completion is required
  • 5+ years of experience in management and supervisory nursing role; most recent 3 of the last 5 years of leadership must have been in a direct leadership role in a hospital setting or direct patient care environment required or equivalent combination of education and/or experience
  • Current Registered Nurse license without restrictions required

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee the nursing department’s operations, ensuring high-quality patient care and adherence to regulatory standards.
  • Foster a collaborative and engaged team environment that supports professional growth, job satisfaction, and excellent patient care.
  • Promote and maintain patient safety initiatives and ensure a commitment to quality improvement throughout the nursing department.
  • Develop and manage the nursing department budget while ensuring efficient use of resources.
  • Champion initiatives that enhance the overall patient experience and care outcomes.
  • Work with hospital leadership to plan, organize, and set goals for nursing services that align with the organization’s mission and vision.
  • Promote the mission, vision, and values of the organization
  • Strategize and drive process improvements focused on innovative care delivery and/or operational models designed to improve clinical services, outcomes, patient throughput, and patient safety
  • Collaborate with other disciplines for the implementation of programs, policies, and procedures that address how patient care needs of the patient population served are assessed, met, and evaluated
  • Analyze nursing services rendered to improve quality of care through monthly Quality Assurance
  • Maintain a harmonious relationship among nursing personnel with patients, medical staff, hospital/clinic staff and the public
  • Serve as a member of the senior leadership team, building and supporting effective collegial relationships with applicable internal and external constituents and stakeholders and ensuring optimal operating effectiveness and strategic positioning
  • Assume an active role with the hospital’s governing body, senior leadership, medical staff, management, and other clinical leaders in the hospital’s decision-making structure and process
  • Promote relationships among all types of community organizations to improve patient outcomes and the health of the communities served
  • Establish mechanisms to assure nurses throughout the organization are involved in shared–governance and decision-making structures and processes that establish standards of practice and address issues of concern
  • Attends trainings and hospital/clinic meetings
  • Ensures the confidentiality of patients’ medical, personal, and financial records is maintained
  • Knowledgeable of and committed to practicing Corporate Compliance policies and procedures
  • Complies with Cherry County Hospital personnel policies
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor
