About The Position

At Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin, Inc. (PPWI), we work to provide quality, affordable health care services, comprehensive education, and strong advocacy. We serve over 60,000 patients annually in 18 health centers statewide, making us the largest and most trusted reproductive health care provider in Wisconsin. Our goal is to help keep Wisconsin safe, healthy and strong! This is an excellent opportunity for a Chief of Staff (40 hours/week) at our Milwaukee and/or Madison Administrative Offices. Starting offers are determined by both the candidate’s applicable experience and internal equity. The Principal Gift Officer pay starts from$143,902 - $179,878 per year. Additional $ 1.50 per hour for bilingual (English/Spanish) PURPOSE OF POSITION: The Chief of Staff (COS) serves as an organizational leader, strategic advisor and trusted partner to the President & CEO, ensuring leadership effectiveness, organizational alignment, and long-term growth. Acting as a conduit and proxy for the CEO, the COS prioritizes and coordinates commitments to maximize the CEO’s impact on PPWI’s mission as Wisconsin’s leading provider, educator, and advocate for sexual and reproductive health. As a member of the Executive Leadership Team (ELT), the COS partners with senior leaders to drive strategic initiatives and cross-functional projects that advance PPWI’s mission and strengthen organizational performance. The COS also directly leads two agency teams — the Executive Office and Marketing & Communications — reflecting the critical importance of internal and external communications to PPWI’s success.

  • Familiarity with nonprofit governance and board engagement best practices.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree (e.g., J.D., MBA, MPA, or related field) preferred.
  • Minimum of 8–10 years of progressive leadership experience, including roles in strategy, operations, executive-level support, execute-level leadership.
  • Demonstrated experience managing cross-functional projects and strategic initiatives.
  • Proven track record in external relations, stakeholder engagement, and donor relationship management.
  • Experience supervising teams and developing staff.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership & Organizational Alignment Leads and coordinates strategic initiatives and cross-functional projects to advance PPWI’s mission and long-term goals.
  • Facilitates decision-making by bringing together stakeholders and driving alignment.
  • Tracks progress on organizational priorities and provides regular updates to the CEO.
  • Represent the organization and CEO in external strategies, partnerships, and advocacy efforts
  • Supports board engagement and governance
  • Supports and amplifies efforts to foster an inclusive culture and sense of belonging across the organization
  • CEO Time & Decision Facilitation Sets and revisits CEO’s strategic priorities; identifies metrics and evaluates progress.
  • Strategically manages CEO’s time and priorities; evaluates opportunities for alignment with organizational and CEO goals.
  • External Relations & Development Supervises external relations positions reporting to the Executive Office Leads and collaborates on external relations strategies to strengthen PPWI’s statewide presence and partnerships.
  • Serves as a visible leader for PPWI statewide.
  • Partners with Development on donor engagement strategies; manages select donor relationships.
  • Ensures CEO is prepared and equipped for all donor engagements.
  • Contributes to donor relations and fundraising strategy
  • Executive Office Leadership & Board Engagement Directly manages Executive Office team; supports team members’ professional development goals.
  • Creates systems and processes to streamline executive operations and enhance organizational efficiency.
  • Serves as an important steward of board relationships.
  • Partners with the Board Manager to ensure the Board has necessary information and consistent communications to effectively govern.
  • Marketing & Communications Supervises MarComms leadership and ensures a comprehensive strategy to support staff experience, maximize patient access, and deliver a clear and consistent narrative.
  • Oversees all internal and external communications from the Office of the President.
  • Monitors media, policy developments, and external trends to inform strategic decision-making.
  • Compliance & Operational Excellence Collaborates on compliance strategies.
  • Monitors information flow to ensure CEO involvement at the right time.
  • Upholds organizational values and ensures understanding of PPWI policies and practices.
  • Other Duties Performs other responsibilities as assigned to support organizational success.
