About The Position

Under general direction of the child support supervisor, the child support assistant performs varied customer service tasks in an organizational unit. Responds to and streamlines worklist items to appropriate departments. Interprets data and information received from participants via the worklist and identifies services needed by participants. Mails out information packets, motion packets, and income withholdings related to the participant or external source’s concern. Frequent in person interviews. Make contact with participants or other facets via phone or email to address general concerns and give general information or gather information.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent
  • Current Wisconsin resident
  • At least 6 months of Clerical or Child Support experience
  • Basic knowledge of all related computer and software applications, such as word processing and spreadsheets.
  • This position also requires a high level of accuracy and comprehension.
  • Knowledge of office/customer service principles, methods, and practices; oral and written communication skills; analytical skills, basic math skills, skill in data entry and in using a personal computer, including the ability to query and retrieve information and produce word processing documents.
  • Plan and work independently conducting interviews with participants and working in a fast paced, high stress environment.
  • The ability to work efficiently in a high volume fast paced environment with multi-cultural populations of varying education and social economics, projecting a positive and concerned image to the public.
  • Being sensitive to participants and learning the child support regulations, policies, procedures, statutes and requirements in order to work effectively and harmoniously with clients, attorneys, families, court officials, community-based agencies, law enforcement, and other governmental agencies, and the public with the capacity to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Standing, Walking, Sitting, Reaching, Bending/Kneeling, Hearing, Talking, Visual, Typing, Writing, Manual Dexterity, Upper Extremity Repetitive Motion, Lifting/Carrying 05 lbs., Pushing/Pulling 05 lbs.
  • Analysis/Reasoning, Communication/Interpretation, Math/Mental Computation, Reading, Sustained Mental Activity (i.e., auditing, problem solving, and writing/composing reports, etc.).
  • Generally diversified and moderately difficult work in a structured work environment, relatively routine in nature. Involving a choice of action within limits of standard policy and procedures. High volume direct Public Contact with distressed individuals and exposure to demands and pressures from persons other than direct supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Address child support policies, procedures and cases specific issues with participants who either call or visit the office for assistance.
  • Review and provide limited financial information found in the KIDS System.
  • Contact participants or other facets via phone or email to address general concerns and give general information or gather information.
  • Utilize and analyze multiple computer databases to review cases, obtain data and respond to inquiries related to child support.
  • Update’s information including addresses, employers, and recording case information discussed and received during in person interviews.
  • Adding notes on actions taken on case.
  • Generate letters to verify address and employer information, send out packets that correlate with services that participant’s request.
  • Draft income withholdings.
  • Determine the corresponding unit to address the participant’s concerns, interstate, paternity, intake, order establishment, or financial in lieu of an office visit or a work list item.
  • Perform any and all other duties as may be assigned.
