About The Position

Under general supervision of the Child Development Worker/Supervisor, accomplishes the Child Care Center Office’s strategic objectives by planning and organizing the assigned functions required to operate and maintain departmental activities and services, including implementing an educational curriculum for children 2 to 8 years of age. Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information. This list of duties and responsibilities is illustrative only of the tasks performed by this position and is not all-inclusive.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Six (6) months progressive work experience in Early Child Care Development.
  • Valid American Heart Association First Aid/CPR/AED certification.
  • Valid Navajo Nation Food Handlers Permit.
  • Must be able to successfully pass the Employee Health Program requirements and background investigation.
  • Knowledge of effective principles and practices of education and development.
  • Knowledge of business English, proper spelling, grammar, punctuation, and mathematics.
  • Knowledge of the needs on young children’s development and growth.
  • Ability to enjoy children and find them interesting and challenging; and willing to take measures to upgrade personal growth as it relates to the job.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in the English and Navajo languages both verbally and in writing with staff and parents.
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds and with co-workers at all levels.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals and demonstrate team-building skills with empathy and enthusiasm.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Ability to create and present effective instructions, speeches, and presentations.
  • Ability to work independently and in group settings.
  • Ability to oversee children based on established ratio.
  • Skill in providing childcare services.
  • Skill in operating business computers and office machines, including applicable timekeeping software.
  • Skill in Fire Home Safety and First Aid/CPR/AED.
  • Skill in analyzing problems, projecting consequences, identifying solutions, and implementing recommendations.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree and/or CDA certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain compliance with Office of Environmental Health Service Day care center requirements.
  • Attend to children’s basic needs in the areas of positive personal hygiene behaviors, physical, emotional, intellectual, and social growth.
  • Promote positive environment to explore interests of children to develop independence, language development, and appropriate behavior models such as classroom rules.
  • Prepare meals, prepare lesson plans and activity calendars, attend department meetings on a regular basis.
  • Perform diaper changing duties, and document changes in Diaper Change Log.
  • Supervise children while on the premises, including the playground, and wellness center.
  • Tutor and assist children with learning basic skills for learning reading, writing, color/shape identification, arithmetic, English and Navajo languages.
  • Ensure confidentiality of all children records, investigations, and other information.
  • Maintain and organize children’s file (enrollment, application, immunization, emergency contact, attendance, etc).
  • Maintain and foster a desirable learning environment.
  • Provide appropriate learning materials and activities for children.
  • Implement plan for integrating children’s cultural teachings during various seasons, incorporate and reinforce events and activities that are occurring in the community.
  • Participate in in-services and educational programs designed to improve job related skills, knowledge, and abilities.
  • Promote positive citizenship and instruct the same to students.
  • Professionally exchange constructive input from peers in a positive manner.
  • Comply with company organizational policies and procedures.
  • Refrain from disruptive behaviors while on duty.
  • Follow established policies and procedures, rules, and regulations, including the Sage Memorial Hospital Personnel Policies & Procedures Manual.
  • Observe department chain of command in addressing work related issues/concerns.
  • Greet parents and visitors in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Perform other duties as required.
