Children's Program Assistant Instructor - Part-time Evenings
About The Position
The Children's Program Assistant Instructor provides engaging, developmentally appropriate learning activities for elementary-aged children enrolled in a family literacy program. This role supports children's literacy and academic growth while strengthening family involvement in the learning process. The instructor creates a safe, welcoming, and inclusive classroom environment and works collaboratively with program staff and families to support student success. This is a part-time evening position , ideal for candidates with experience in education, afterschool programs, childcare, youth development, or community-based learning environments.
Requirements
- Experience working with school-age children (preferred)
- Experience working with diverse, multicultural, and multilingual populations
- Sensitivity to the needs of adult learners and undereducated adults
- Strong communication, organization, and planning skills
- Excellent active listening and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Commitment to ongoing professional development
- Passion for family literacy, education, and community engagement
Nice To Haves
- Bilingual skills a plus (English/Haitian Creole)
Responsibilities
- Assist in planning and delivering engaging reading and learning activities for school-age children in an evening family literacy program
- Support the Program Manager with lesson planning and instructional activities
- Serve as lead children's instructor in the absence of the program manager
- Create an inviting, creative, and supportive classroom environment
- Implement effective classroom management and positive behavior strategies
- Maintain accurate student records and attendance data
- Encourage family engagement and model effective instructional and behavior management strategies for parents
