About The Position

The City of Fishers is seeking a full-time City Code Enforcer within the Department of Community and Economic Development. This role is responsible for performing regular and proactive inspections to ensure compliance with various city codes (Municipal, Zoning, Property Maintenance and Building Codes).

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Valid Indiana driver's license and ability to be insured to drive a city vehicle required
  • Ability to read and understand various codes and ordinances required
  • General knowledge of city government required
  • Ability to work outside in varied weather conditions and terrains required
  • Ability to critically apply general knowledge of codes to various commercial violations and follow process and procedures to resolution required
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn various other software required
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of people both verbally and in writing in sometimes difficult and highly stressful situations required
  • Availability to perform on-call duties for after-hours work on a rotational basis or as needed required

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelors Degree preferred
  • Previous experience working in government, construction, maintenance, or code enforcement highly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Perform zoning inspections to verify compliance with the standards of the Unified Development Ordinance, various Planned Unit Development (PUD) Ordinances, and Municipal Code.
  • Monitoring commercial areas for potential violations.
  • Inspecting permit compliance.
  • Monitoring of the city's rights-of-way and collecting various signs that have been placed illegally.
  • Track and manage complaints and inspection records within the OpenGov system.
  • Write and distribute written notices, violations, and fines in an accurate and detailed manner.
  • Receive and investigate citizen complaints related to code violations.
  • Prepare files for the Legal Department to pursue further action, if required.
  • Low risk building construction inspections as related to the site and landscaping requirements of the city.
  • Investigate tall weeds and grass complaints.
  • Other duties as assigned based on business needs.
