About The Position

Westwood Professional Services, Inc. has a highly experienced and dynamic team of individuals dedicated to providing high-level professional services to our clients. A Graduate Engineer II, Transportation (AKA: Civil Engineer Intern II) is expected to work on a team providing support to a licensed Civil Engineer while learning the company’s standard practices and local agency codes. As part of our Public Infrastructure team, you will be dedicated to becoming proficient in Design Software (AutoCAD Civil 3D, OpenRoads, MicroStation, etc.), performing technical calculations, preparing plans and specifications, and assisting with other project management and engineering tasks. In pursuit of a Professional Engineering license, the applicant must be organized, self-motivated, and able to collaboratively solve complex issues on time and within budget.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Certificate or passed FE exam
  • 2 years using MicroStation, InRoads, PowerInRoads, and/or OpenRoads for transportation design

Responsibilities

  • Provides technical, day to day, design support to the Project Engineer including drafting support for plan production activities
  • Progresses toward learning how to clearly convey the design intent through engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Assigns tasks to and coordinates with cad technicians or administrative staff
  • Analyzes topographic survey data
  • Continues to develop a knowledge of the fundamentals of engineering processes and to apply them successfully to operating systems.
  • Performs technical reports and cost estimates
  • Performs hydrologic and hydraulic design calculations
  • Develops an understanding of construction methods and the translation of engineering plans and specifications into constructed product
  • Performs drainage design and sanitary sewer design
  • Performs construction administration tasks
  • Analyzes horizontal and vertical geometry
  • Models roadway corridors
  • Other duties as assigned
