The New Jersey operations of Michael Baker International has an exciting opportunity for a Transportation Engineer in the Transportation Planning and Engineering Department. The successful candidate will join a collaboration of experienced engineers, planners, and project managers dedicated to having a positive impact through effective transportation project delivery. The ideal candidate will be driven, intellectually curious, committed to excellence, and demonstrate a desire to make a difference in the communities we serve. They will manage and support the Department staff, including senior engineers and planners on multi-disciplinary concept-level engineering and planning projects and will be responsible for the preparation of conceptual documents for federal, state, and local government clients, as well as private sector clients. A Hybrid working arrangement is available within the US at the Newark NJ, Hamilton NJ, or New York NY offices. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related field
  • 5+ years of progressive traffic engineering/transportation planning experience; concept development emphasis is ideal, although experience across other engineering phases is also highly valued
  • Experience in preparing Concept Development Reports and/or Preliminary Engineering or Final Design Plans
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification with ability to obtain a PE license within one year
  • Possess the ability to manage multiple tasks and assignments independently under limited supervision
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite products

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree in Transportation Engineering or related field
  • PE license in NJ and/or NY
  • Familiarity with NY State and NY City DOT standards and processes
  • Familiarity and experience with New Jersey DOT, New Jersey Metropolitan Planning Organizations, Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, and New Jersey Turnpike Authority project development process and design standards
  • Experience in traffic engineering / transportation planning software such as AutoCAD, Bentley MicroStation, HCS, Synchro, SimTraffic, Vissim, and ArcGIS

Responsibilities

  • Conduct and manage concept development studies for roadways and bridges having the opportunity to contribute to these projects as they advance through the project delivery process from Concept Development to Preliminary Engineering and Final Design
  • Review and analyze the operational performance of facilities including bicycle, pedestrian, and safety improvement studies
  • Develop and review concept development studies for infrastructure projects
  • Provide direct support to client project managers
  • Mentor junior staff and support marketing and business development efforts
  • Interact directly with clients, stakeholders, and the general public
  • Write proposals for business development pursuits to assist in providing innovative solutions to transportation challenges
