About The Position

The Civil Engineer is responsible for a variety of Civil Engineering projects focused on sanitation and civil site in both rural and urban Alaska. Responsibilities Participate in marketing, writing proposals, winning work, and developing and maintaining client relationships. Initiate, plan, execute, and close small to medium size transportation and/or site civil projects. Perform design tasks and/or lead a design team on civil projects; including water and sewer, landfill, general utility; and various site civil development projects. Coordinate the work of a design team and outside consultants to develop Plans, Specifications and Estimate packages for multiple projects and a variety of clients. Establish and maintain client relationships; ensure client satisfaction; ensure client objectives are met. Train and mentor young professionals. This position has no supervisory responsibilities. Other duties that are pertinent to the department or unit’s success also may be assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (BSCE) required.
  • Alaska Professional Engineer registration required.
  • Minimum of four (4) years engineering experience required, with a background in transportation, water, wastewater and/or site civil design.
  • Solid understanding of civil design and construction standards, and environmental conditions and constraints.
  • Proven history of meeting project deadlines and budgets.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D and MS software applications.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with clients, staff and management.
  • Adaptability and ability to respond quickly and accurately under pressure.
  • Must be willing and able to travel occasionally to remote locations in Alaska, some of which includes travel in small aircraft.
  • A valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under company vehicle insurance policy.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with projects in rural Alaska and/or cold regions is preferred.
  • Demonstrated skills developing relationships with municipal and state agencies in support of transportation and/or site civil projects.
