Role Description: We are seeking a Climate Adaptation Intern to join the Water Management Team in New York City for Summer 2026, starting in May/June. This position will work directly with Arcadis staff who sit within the Water Management Practice of the Global Resiliency Group. With the support of industry leading technical and professional staff, this new team member will support projects throughout the country with private, federal, state, and local government clients related to climate adaptation, resilience planning, climate vulnerability assessments, policy, project development, feasibility studies, engineering design, as well as project funding and implementation. The role offers an excellent opportunity to learn and grow professionally while working on a wide variety of projects alongside a dedicated and experienced staff. Role Accountabilities: In the role of a Climate Adaptation Intern, you will take on a diverse range of tasks aimed at supporting climate adaptation projects for both existing and expanding clientele. This involves providing support for planning and engineering studies for coastal protection projects, climate risk assessments, benefit-cost analysis, environmental impact assessments, funding strategy & implementation, grant management, and community engagement, and other resilience needs. Collaborating closely with integrated, multi-disciplinary teams of planners, engineers, scientists, economists, policy experts, and others, you will contribute to innovative solutions for complex challenges. This role will meet 2-3 days per week in-office up to 40 hours per week during the summer. As a Climate Adaptation Intern, your duties may include the following: Conduct research and assist in drafting clear, well-organized report sections to support resilience projects, climate risk assessments, and funding applications Simultaneous involvement in various project components, requiring your adeptness at multitasking. Developing maps and other graphic materials for inclusion in project presentations, reports, and community engagement materials. Supporting public engagement, including tracking and organizing comments received. Conducting climate risk assessments, including compiling and analyzing climate and hazard exposure data, developing and maintaining GIS datasets, automating geospatial analysis steps using Python and/or GIS tools, and generating summary statistics We are seeking a motivated, detail-oriented, highly organized individual with robust research, writing, and communication skills and a strong interest in supporting urban and coastal climate adaptation initiatives, including funding and implementation. The ideal candidate excels in both written and verbal communication, brings strong research capabilities, and demonstrates the ability to organize and present data effectively using tools such as Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint. Strong experience and comfort working in MS Office Software is essential for success in this role. Additionally, this position requires someone adept at managing multiple tasks simultaneously while collaborating seamlessly with multidisciplinary teams to drive successful project outcomes. Periodic travel to New York City client sites, public meetings, or internal workshops is expected, further enriching your experience.
