About The Position

As a senior leader on the Global Sustainability team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and advancing the company’s environmental data strategy. The Climate Performance and Reporting Senior Manager will oversee Thermo Fisher’s global environmental data accounting, assurance, and reporting programs, enabling the organization to meet its science-based targets, deliver high-quality disclosures, and prepare for evolving global climate regulations. You will provide strategic direction on environmental data governance, lead cross-functional data integration efforts—including M&A—and serve as the company’s foremost expert on carbon accounting methodologies and systems, with a continuous improvement philosophy that drives efficiency and impact. This role reports to the Sustainability Program Director within the Global Sustainability function.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Engineering, Accounting, Data Analytics, or related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in carbon accounting, ESG reporting, environmental data management, or related sustainability domains.
  • Deep understanding of the GHG Protocol, SBTi guidance, environmental accounting frameworks, and global climate disclosure requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience leading assurance or audit processes and working with external assurance providers.
  • Proven track record of leading cross-functional initiatives, ideally within large, multi-site global organizations.
  • Experience managing complex environmental datasets with strong data governance and quality controls.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership in Environmental Data Accounting
  • Provide enterprise-level leadership for Thermo Fisher’s environmental data accounting program, ensuring global consistency and strategic alignment.
  • Define and evolve the company’s carbon accounting methodologies and data governance framework in alignment with the GHG Protocol, SBTi guidance, and emerging global standards.
  • Oversee the end-to-end processes for collecting, validating, managing, and reporting Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 GHG emissions, as well as other key environmental metrics.
  • Lead the development of future-state data systems and processes to support complex, multi-source environmental datasets.
  • Maintain and evolve audit-ready environmental data collection, reporting, and documentation procedures.
  • Direct the internal environmental data quality control (QC) program, ensuring high-quality, reliable datasets across global sites and functions.
  • Oversee the acquisition and validation of supplier-specific emission factors, strengthening the quality of primary data for Scope 3 emissions.
  • Lead environmental data integration for Mergers & Acquisitions, including due diligence, onboarding, system harmonization, and methodology alignment.
  • Identify strategic opportunities for process improvement, automation, and methodology optimization across the environmental data lifecycle.
  • Serve as Thermo Fisher’s senior subject matter expert for carbon accounting, GHG methodologies, and science-based targets.
  • Pursue and represent Thermo Fisher in external thought leadership coalitions.
  • Climate Data Assurance & Regulatory Preparedness
  • Lead enterprise assurance programs for environmental and GHG emissions data, including voluntary assurance and preparation for regulatory assurance.
  • Serve as the senior point of contact for external assurance providers, driving alignment on expectations, documentation, and audit readiness.
  • Anticipate emerging climate disclosure regulations (e.g., SEC climate rule, CSRD, California SB 253/SB 261) and guide the organization’s readiness strategy.
  • Maintain and elevate environmental data controls, governance, and documentation to support compliance, transparency, and scalability.
  • Systems, Tools & Vendor Management
  • Provide oversight and strategic direction for carbon accounting solution platforms, ensuring they meet enterprise reporting, integration, and control requirements.
  • Manage senior-level relationships with solution vendors to drive continuous improvement, innovation, and long-term platform effectiveness.
  • Partner with IT, procurement, operations, and other global functions to advance systems integration and data connectivity.
  • Cross-Functional Partnership & Executive Engagement
  • Lead cross-functional collaboration efforts with operations, facilities, supply chain, finance, ESG, and business unit leaders to ensure alignment on environmental data and reporting.
  • Provide expert guidance on boundary setting, data quality expectations, calculation methodologies, and emissions modeling.
  • Support executive leadership by communicating high-level insights, risks, challenges, and recommendations.
  • Influence and educate senior stakeholders across the organization on climate-related methodologies, regulatory implications, and strategic considerations.
