About The Position

The nurse in the ambulatory care setting assesses the patient's needs by collecting subjective and objective health status data from the patient or the patient's care giver, and communicates this data to the health care provider. The ambulatory nurse may triage based on this data. The ambulatory nurse prioritizes the information collected based on the patient's condition, the situation, and/or anticipated needs, and implements a plan of care in collaboration with the authorized provider, and evaluates the response of the prescribed treatment. The ambulatory nurse communicates and educates the health care provider's instructions for care to the patient or the patient's caregiver. Ambulatory care nursing is a specialty practice area that is characterized by dealing with situations and issues that are not always predictable. The Clinic Nurse Supervisor must demonstrate knowledge of nursing principles for the clinic patient. Provides supervision, management, and leadership of the clinical support staff. Oversees care for clinic patients of all ages following established standards and practices. Expertly skilled in the functions of the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and process/utilization improvement related to the EMR. Improves clinical patient care processes for quality patient outcomes. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, clinical support staff and the public. Recognizes problems and recommends solutions. Reacts calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Interprets, adapts and supplies guidelines and procedures. Communicates clearly. Maintains confidentiality. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment. Will fill in for clinic nursing staff for ill calls, vacations, and staffing holes. Preform other duties as assigned by CEO. The Clinic Nurse Supervisor adheres to the regulations of a Rural Health Clinic, state licensing guidelines and subsequent practices. May delegate to licensed and unlicensed personnel within their defined scope of practice as well as students and new staff. When students and new staff are providing patient care, treatment, and/or services as a part of their training, any/all employees may be asked to supervise these individuals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in nursing preferred. Minimum of one to two years of professional nursing experience in a clinical setting preferred.
  • Currently holds the RN license with the applicable State Nursing Board and/or possess multistate licensure privileges. Functions within the legal scope of practice.
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language and follow oral or written instruction.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, work with customers and co-workers in a professional manner

Responsibilities

  • Enhances the care delivery team processes to maximize the patient experience.
  • Knowledgeable and skilled in the care of clinic patients and the supervision of clinical staff delivering patient care.
  • Patient care and supervision includes following the established clinic policy/procedures; executes the nursing process flawlessly; identifies and manages medication safety concerns; familiar with and supervises compliance with National Patient Safety Goals, population specific patient care, infection prevention and control, patient testing and procedures, and telephone communication.
  • Prepares or finalizes nursing staff
  • Coordinates staff changes, i.e., sick calls, vacations, jury duty, etc.
  • Fill in for nursing staff when staffing needs exist, i.e., sick calls, vacations, jury duty, etc
  • Completes nursing staff evaluations and maintains communication with staff in a timely manner.
  • Coordinates staff orientations and verifies procedures for clinical support staff.
  • Monitors equipment and reports repairs.
  • Assists with recruiting and follow through with performance related variances/conduct.
  • Assists with time and attendance and payroll tracking.
  • Maintains inventory supplies, medications, vaccines, supply closets, formula.
  • Maintain temperature on all fridges
  • Assists CEO with patient complaints.
  • Supervises nursing staff to execute smooth operational flow for the clinic and providers
  • Proficient EMR user and Superuser.
  • Organizes, leads, and presents clinical information at provider meetings and nursing meetings.
  • Collaborates with other health team members in intra/inter departmental issue recognition and resolution.
  • Ensure nursing staff is current with education
  • Coordinates nursing staff education, meetings, and procedure changes
  • Coordinates yearly nursing staff competencies
  • Acts as liaison between clinical support staff, providers, and other office staff.
  • Develops, updates, and implements protocols and procedures
  • Ensure state requirements, Rural Health Clinic requirements are being met
  • Lead Clinic Operations meeting
  • Attend and participate in facility QAPI meetings
  • Ensure biannual meetings, as required by Rural Health regulations, are completed
  • Promotes and assists others to practice safe work habits; identifies and reports health and safety hazards; and offers suggestions and participates in corrective action.
  • Collaborates with other health team members in intra/inter departmental issue recognition and resolution.
  • Communicates with team members in a professional and respectful manner.
  • Documents accurately and legibly.
  • Assesses patients' physical and emotional needs.
  • Utilizes effective communication and negotiation with the clinic patients and staff to establish goals that are consistent with the overall plan of care.
  • Communicates changes in client status with provider and/or family members.
  • Modifies, implements, and evaluates individualized teaching plan in order to restore, maintain or promote health.
  • Gives pertinent and timely report to co-workers
  • Complies with department and organizational policies and procedures
  • Organizes department and projects while participating in and developing implementation of system initiatives.
  • Evaluates, implements, and assures compliance with National Patient Safety Goal initiatives and standardized workflow

  • Must focus work closely within the department and facility to accomplish WRH strategic priorities.
  • Must be active in strategic planning within the department and facility to stay up to speed with current trends in healthcare.

  • Participates in strategic planning as directed.
  • Manage short and long term projects
  • Must comply with the Corporate Compliance Policy and all laws, rules, regulations and standards of conduct relating to the position.
  • The employee has a duty to report any suspected violations of the law or the standards of conduct to the Human Resource Manager or the Chief Executive Officer.
