About The Position

Under the direction and supervision of the Regional Nurse Manager or Director of Nursing, the Clinical Competency Coordinator assures and maintains the overall clinic operation in the successful delivery of quality patient care and functions as liaison between Regional Nurse Manager or Director of Nursing and Clinic Nursing Personnel. Responsible for overseeing clinical competencies throughout the nursing department with new and existing employees. Will play a vital role in the orientation process for Medical Assistants throughout the 90-day introductory period. The Clinical Competency Coordinator assists in planning and organizing trainings to maintain, and implement new clinical skills, and/or competencies within the organization. Is familiar with medical terminology, the names of instruments, how to interact with patients and provides patient care and other related clinical, laboratory, technical and support to Physicians, Midlevel Practitioners, and Licensed Nurses, to provide direct patient care following El Centro Family Health (ECFH) Policies and Procedures. May be required to travel to perform work assignment at any ECFH Medical Clinic.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum one year experience working in the health care field preferably in a clinical setting.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) or Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Intermediate knowledge/expertise with PC hardware and software (Word and Excel).
  • Ability to work well in a team environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of one-year experience in supervisory role in a clinical or hospital setting.
  • Registered Medical Assistant

Responsibilities

  • Help assist in the overall clinical operations with nurses, clinic manager and nurse manager by acknowledging, adhering to, and implementing overall organizational and medical policies and operating procedures of ECFH.
  • Maintain established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  • Perform all duties consistent with Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH) and Meaningful Use (MU) Team guidelines, assignment, and training; evidence-based guidelines in clinical practice and population management activities utilizing certified EHR systems.
  • Cross Training and Utilization, as it applies to the employee's job description and ECFH Code of Ethics Policy.
  • Ensure that there is adequate nurse coverage daily, communicates issues or concerns with Regional Nurse Manager or Director of Nursing.
  • Plan and insure that required reports, documents, and timesheets, are accurate and submitted timely.
  • Coordinate and assist Regional Nurse Manager or Director of Nursing with regular monthly staff meetings to discuss progress and new developments and documenting; ensures effective communication among all nursing and the public.
  • Review payroll on a bi-weekly basis.
  • Provides input to Regional Nursing Manager or Director of Nursing regarding corrective actions and evaluating staff against the goals and objectives of an individual nursing staff member.
  • Responsible for conducting 90-day and annual performance review for non-licensed nursing staff for administrative and clinical responsibilities. For a licensed nurse, the Nurse Manager or Director of Nurses performs the evaluation for clinical responsibilities.
  • Coordinate and assist the Regional Nurse Manager or Director of Nursing in recruitment of prospective nursing staff.
  • Perform other related assigned duties and responsibilities, in accordance with the employee's job description and ECFH Code of Ethics Policy.
  • Ensure quality patient care by acknowledging, adhering to, and implementing overall organizational and medical policies, standing orders and protocols of El Centro Family Health.
  • Utilize Electronic Health Record (EHR) to proficiently obtain and record vital statistics, symptoms, and any patient information required in preparation for provider encounter.
  • Observe documents and report any unusual behavior or conditions to ensure patient safety to Licensed Provider.
  • Assist providers by giving and reviewing selected medical education to patients and/or family members on their health care.
  • Acknowledge, adhere to, and implement overall organizational and medical policies and operating procedures of El Centro Family Health.
  • Ensure New Mexico State Immunization Information System (NMSIIS) data is maintained monthly to include all necessary inventory, transferring and miscellaneous mandatory reporting.
  • Assist patients by referring questions to a licensed nurse or a provider.
  • Adhere to customer service policy, contribute to team effort, and participate in continuing education or seminars related to job responsibilities including brown bag trainings, etc.
  • Orient and train new employees and provide assistance in instructing workers in the daily routines, and ensure staff follow ECFH policies and procedures.
  • May be assigned to assist/work in Laboratory following laboratory standards per CLIA guidelines and El Centro Policy and Procedures.
