About The Position

The Clinical Coordinator – Emergency Department provides advanced clinical and operational leadership, ensuring safe, efficient, and regulatory-compliant emergency care delivery. This role oversees throughput, acuity-based staffing, clinical escalation, quality performance metrics, and interdisciplinary coordination. Serves as designee for the Nurse Manager in their absence. This position is scheduled primarily during afternoon and evening hours and may be structured as 8-hour or 10-hour shifts based on clinical and operational need. The role provides leadership overlap between day and night 12-hour nursing shifts and includes at least one weekend per month to ensure consistent leadership representation.

Requirements

  • Current California RN License.
  • BLS, ACLS, PALS required.
  • TNCC required.
  • NIH Stroke Scale Certification required.
  • CEN (Certified Emergency Nurse) required within 12 months of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • TCRN (Trauma Certified Registered Nurse).
  • CPEN (Certified Pediatric Emergency Nurse) if pediatric volume significant.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee triage operations and ensure appropriate acuity-based assignments.
  • Coordinate patient flow to optimize door-to-provider and disposition times.
  • Lead trauma activations, stroke alerts, and STEMI response processes.
  • Conduct real-time clinical escalation and support high-risk interventions.
  • Facilitate shift huddles and interdisciplinary coordination.
  • Participate in case reviews, incident investigations, and root cause analyses.
  • Mentor and coach staff in clinical practice and documentation integrity.
  • Monitor compliance with Sepsis Bundle, Stroke Door-to-Needle, STEMI Door-to-Balloon benchmarks.
  • Ensure EMTALA compliance and documentation accuracy.
  • Track LWBS rates and boarding metrics.
  • Support Joint Commission and CMS Conditions of Participation readiness.
  • Participate in departmental quality improvement initiatives.
  • Reduce LWBS and improve throughput to support revenue integrity.
  • Optimize staffing utilization based on acuity and census.
  • Reduce preventable admissions and hospital-acquired conditions.
  • Support efficient resource deployment during surge events.
  • Authority to reassign staff based on acuity and patient care needs.
  • Authority to escalate unsafe staffing or patient safety concerns.
  • Authority to remove staff from assignment if safety risk identified.
  • Provide input into staff performance evaluations and corrective coaching.
