About The Position

While upholding the Star Valley Health mission, vision and values, this key position will assist in the implementation and maintenance of Information Systems. The Clinical Informatic Specialist, also known as an EHR Support Analyst (ESA) is responsible for providing technical and functional support for the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system, Epic. An ESA ensures optimal performance and utilization of the system and possesses a deep understanding of the EHR utilization and health center operations. This role involves educating and collaborating with end-user, leadership, the EHR vendor, and internal stakeholders to identify, assess, troubleshoot, and resolve issues related to the use and function of the Epic system. The ESA utilizes clinical knowledge, skills and expertise to assist in the implementation, maintenance, and optimization of the EHR system, setting professional standards of clinical practice, participating in training initiatives, creating and updating end-user documentation, and performing testing for system upgrades. Additionally, the ESA is responsible for completing and maintaining portions of the technical build within the Epic system, ensuring seamless integration, use, and performance. Strong problem-solving, communication, and technical skills, along with the ability to manage complex demands from end-users and align with organizational strategic goals, are essential for success in this role. Assist in the development of and compliance with HIPAA standards to maintain the security, privacy, confidentiality, and integrity of health information. This position is “at will.”

Requirements

  • Hours of work may vary including on-call coverage as assigned and needed
  • Constant sitting, typing, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, bending, and reaching throughout the day. Must be able to lift twenty (20) pounds unassisted on a regular basis, lifting fifty (50) pounds or more on occasion.
  • BS degree and minimum of 8 years healthcare experience preferred.
  • Experience with EHR software, Epic preferred.
  • Strong understanding of health center operations.
  • Excellent leadership skills, with the ability to lead by influence instead of authority.
  • Strong understanding of health center operations, including Information Technology operations, HIPAA privacy laws, and HITECH regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the development and optimization of Star Valley Health’s EHR.
  • Provide technical and functional support within the Epic EHR system, addressing user inquiries, troubleshooting issues, and resolving problems to ensure optimal system performance. Identify, assess, and troubleshoot issues, owning the problem and seeing it through to full resolution including communication back to staff.
  • Act as a liaison between leadership, end-users, and external vendors to facilitate effective communication, identify areas for improvement, and develop optimized solutions for the EHR system.
  • Develop and maintain up-to-date end-user documentation and training materials including but not limited to flow charts and reference guides, ensuring that users have access to accurate information and resources to effectively utilize information systems.
  • Works closely within the IT department to coordinate all efforts between the financial, clinical and technical components of staff equipment and as new products are introduced.
  • Collaborate effectively with project stake holders, EHR vendor analysts, vendors, and colleagues to identify and resolve issues related to EHR, other systems, and internal workflows.
  • Create and maintain technical build within the Epic system specific to Star Valley Health, including but not limited to creating new Epic users, provider records, preference lists, fee schedules, letter templates, workstation, and printers.
  • Participate in training initiatives, delivering instruction to end-users on system features, functionality, and best practices, fostering user competence and confidence with various tools and methods of communication.
  • Oversee the execution of user acceptance testing (UAT) of new releases or updates to the EHR system by leveraging the expertise of subject matter experts (SMEs) to assist in testing as well as effectively disseminating and incorporating changes into training materials and user documentation.
  • Work in partnership with the organization’s leadership and stake holders to align EHR support efforts with organizational strategic goals, contributing to the overall success and growth of Star Valley Health.
  • Manage complex demands from end-users and prioritize tasks effectively, ensuring timely resolution of issues and efficient utilization of resources.
  • Oversees and leads in committee discussions for the EHR and related software, identifying applications that may assist clinical staff incorporate information technology into their daily practice, utilizing evidence-based research and industry best practices with conformance to regulations. Present software modifications, enhancements and new feature development of all clinical software partners.
  • Participates in process improvement and change management to maintain or promote an efficient environment.
  • Oversees projects and manages timelines and tasks needed for successful completion.
  • Collaborate with organizational leadership in the scoping of new integrations with current or new applications within our technology ecosystem. Assist with building, testing and supporting all integrations.
  • Attend ongoing EHR Support Analyst meetings, workshops, and education sessions, to stay current in system applications, use, and support.
  • Other duties as assigned or as needs arise.
