About The Position

The Clinical Research Nurse/Registered Nurse III shall be responsible for the Nursing Department service areas including Trauma, Critical Care, Oncology, Neuroscience, Behavioral Health, Pediatrics, Medical Surgical Specialties, Perioperative Nursing, Interventional Radiology, Diabetes care, Inpatient care services, outpatient clinic and more.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree from a professional nursing educational program.
• Minimum five (5) years of clinical research nursing experience.
• Possess a current, active, full and unrestricted license from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
• Experience obtained in a research and clinical setting and includes experience obtained in either the military, federal, private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: Providing comprehensive nursing care to patients; administering oxygen, IV fluid, blood transfusions and prescribed oral, subcutaneous and intramuscular medications
• Managing nasal-pharyngeal and gastric suction as well as a variety of other drainage tubes; preparing patients for surgical and/or diagnostic procedures
• Setting up, operating and monitoring specialized equipment such as cardiac monitors, respirators, defibrillators, etc.
• Providing care in a variety of clinical settings, such as Inpatient Patient Care Units (e.g. oncology, pediatric, neurology, behavioral health), ICU, Operating Room, PACU, Donor Services, Infusion Centers and Ambulatory Clinics.

Responsibilities

• Exercise the full domain of practice for the clinical research nurse specialty that includes providing clinical care to research patients, supporting protocol implementation, and data collection, continuity of care, human subject protection and dissemination of clinical research findings.
• Utilize advanced critical thinking and nursing skills to assess, plan, perform and evaluate nursing care for individual patients, patient's families and significant others who are participants in biomedical research protocols.
• Identify and communicate the impact of research processes on patient care.
• Report to the research team any intervention adjustments based on issues and variances found through evidence-based nursing practices.
• Support biomedical research through detailed observation, measurements and data collection related to pertinent assessments as defined by the protocol specifications and the nurse's clinical judgment.
• Document observations, identifying trends and effectively communicating this information to the multidisciplinary research team and nursing colleagues.
• Maintain all clinical research documentation to support ongoing and future studies in support of the principal investigator and the project staff.
• Provide feedback to colleagues and investigators on all issues affecting the quality of the research endeavor.
• Assist less-experienced nurses to learn the specifics of studies or protocols.
• Evaluate patient trends in outcomes and compliance.
• Contribute to the design of clinical trials.
• Provide patient-focused nursing care within an interdisciplinary team by collaborating with team members to create and communicate a plan of care that balances clinical care needs with research needs and allows for safe and effective collection of clinical research data.
• Contribute to multidisciplinary rounds and activities regarding patient care and protocol implementation.
• Other duties as assigned.
