About The Position

Overview Retina Consultants of Texas (RCTX) is seeking an individual who will be responsible to providing accurate documentation and summarization of the ocular examination and recommendations while maintaining patient flow and communication regarding appointment status within a high volume practice. Candidate will work exclusively within the EMR system (Nextech) supporting the providers as they interact with the patient. Candidate must be able to travel to multiple clinics to meet the needs of the patients and providers, and support the clinic's variable hours (Monday - Friday, 6:30 am to 6:30 pm). Schedules are provided weekly and are based on the physician's clinic, patient and surgery schedules. Clinic staff are also provided the opportunity for weekend hours if available. Responsibilities The Clinical Research Technician is a dual-role position responsible for providing clinical support and research coordination services. This position combines ophthalmic technical skills with research administration capabilities, requiring strong communication abilities to educate patients about complex clinical trials and assist with informed consent processes. The technician maintains patient flow, supports clinical procedures, and ensures compliance with research protocols while exemplifying our core values of hard work, authentic care, and innovation.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required
  • Ability to understand and articulate complex concepts
  • Quick learning ability and adaptability
  • Must be able to walk and stand for entire work shift.
  • Must be able to move frequently from standing and sitting depending on exam room configuration during clinic sessions.
  • Must be able to type or write legibly in a dimly-lit setting.
  • Must be able to hear softly spoken words.
  • Must be able to add support for elderly patients getting in and out of exam chairs.
  • Lifting required up to 30 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science/Biology preferred
  • Previous healthcare or research experience preferred but not required
  • Bilingual capabilities preferred (English primary)

Responsibilities

  • Obtains comprehensive patient history including chief complaint, history of present illness, patient and family history of both ocular and general illnesses, history of allergies, and current medications
  • Accurately performs and documents visual acuity, confrontational visual fields, evaluation of motility, pupillary function tests, dilation, and ocular tonometry
  • Assists physicians with laser procedures, injections, and minor procedures while maintaining sterile and safe environment protocols
  • Performs intraocular pressure checks after injections
  • Provides compassionate patient care throughout the clinic flow
  • Maintains cleanliness in exam and procedure rooms and back-up levels of supply stock
  • Counsels, consents, sets up and assists with in-office procedures
  • Counsels and educates patients regarding clinical trials, articulating complex study information clearly
  • Conducts informed consent processes for research studies
  • Administers all mandatory questionnaires to study subjects
  • Prepares visit-specific documentation and charts for Physician Clinic Team
  • Promptly requests all necessary medical records for Serious Adverse Event Reporting
  • Processes and ships laboratory biological samples for analysis
  • Coordinates and schedules subject visits within study/subject specific windows per protocol guidelines
  • Transcribes subject study information from source documents to Electronic Case Report Forms
  • Obtains any applicable additional/required sponsor training and/or certifications
  • Performs other duties as assigned
