About The Position

This position reports directly to the Clinical Education Manager/Assistant Manager and works closely with department leadership. The Clinical Education Department Educator is proficient, or will become proficient, in adult learning concepts and competency verification methods. They will oversee and support training and instruction to clinical staff in their assigned department to ensure they are up to date with best practices, protocols, and new healthcare technologies. The Clinical Education Department Educator introduces technical and theoretical concepts to staff during orientation and ongoing competencies, by facilitating a dynamic learning process and appropriate verification methods for competencies. This position supports the identification process of department competencies from staff, department managers, and clinical coordinators by establishing/hosting the identification process and developing/verifying validation methods. This position works closely with members of the leadership team to promote continuous improvement throughout the organization by supporting clinical practice change that aligns with the mission, vision, and values of the organization. The Educator will lead training and education initiatives across the facility, engaging a wide range of learners.

Requirements

  • Requires a degree in Respiratory Therapy with a Bachelor’s degree preferred and a Masters Degree strongly desired. A Commitment to obtain a Bachelor’s degree within 3 years of hire.
  • Current, unencumbered Oregon State Respiratory Care License.
  • Current BLS, PALS, NRP and ACLS required at time of hire or completed within 90 days of hire
  • Computer skills, proficiency in word processing, and internet use.
  • Understanding of basic functions of a computer network.
  • Microsoft Office (specifically Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel).
  • Excellent telephone etiquette skills, communication skills, and customer service skills.
  • Fax machine and copier experience.
  • Type a minimum speed of 45 WPM accurately.
  • Excellent skills in English, punctuation, spelling, grammar, and proofreading.
  • Knowledge of electronic health record system helpful.
  • Ability to provide care for the patient’s age-specific, cultural, physical, and psychosocial well-being.
  • Ability to write educational objectives for healthcare employees.
  • Must demonstrate schedule flexibility to accommodate and engage with staff across all shifts, ensuring equal access to educational resources and support.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience and National certifications may be considered in place of the Bachelor’s degree upon approval of the Vice President of Nursing with a commitment to obtain a Bachelor’s degree within 3 years of hire.
  • 5+ years hospital experience. Candidates with strong clinical backgrounds and a passion for education will be considered and reviewed by the department manager/director if less than 5 years of experience.
  • Experience teaching others and developing courses, including direct teaching and evaluating the learning process. Experience in various teaching theories and learning models. Experience working with/teaching utilizing simulation manikins and software. Experience as a clinical staff educator.

Responsibilities

  • Integrate evidence-based practices into standardized training aligned with facility policies.
  • Support the Simulation and Residency program to any capacity that is needed.
  • Help maintain all Good Shepherd educational programs to any capacity that is needed.
  • Organize and track in-services, workshops, and simulation-based trainings.
  • Ensure long-term sustainability and effectiveness of education initiatives.
  • Assist in mentoring preceptors, shift charges, and other Clinical Education Educators.
  • Foster teamwork and collaboration in all interactions.
  • Communicate clearly, compassionately, and professionally.
  • Conveys empathy and compassion in conversation.
  • Demonstrates reliability, professionalism, and strong organizational skills.
