About The Position

The Diabetes Educator identifies patient needs and priorities for education used on assessment for adult and pediatric patient population. Needs to be able to apply in–depth knowledge of diabetes in the care of infant, children, and adolescent patients and their families. Provide education and consultation on the management and/or prevention of diabetes. Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing required.
  • Current Alabama or Multistate Nursing license with the Alabama Board of Nursing required
  • Require dietetic registration and licensure or nursing licensure within provisional period.
  • Must be a Certified Diabetes Educator or working toward certification in diabetes education within provisional period.
  • Must be a Certified Diabetes Educator within 2 years of hire
  • Effective verbal and written skills. Ability to communicate with people from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds
  • Works as an effective member of a multi-disciplinary pediatric diabetes care team (MDs, nurse practitioners, nurses, dietitians, and social worker)
  • Demonstrates expert knowledge of diabetes by providing current, fact-based information

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited college or university preferred.
  • 2 years experience in the field of diabetes care and education is preferred.
