About The Position

The Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Technician II performs advanced field and laboratory testing of soils, concrete, asphalt, and other construction materials to ensure compliance with engineering specifications, regulatory requirements, and quality standards. This role requires prior field testing experience and the ability to perform testing procedures independently while supporting engineers, project managers, and clients at construction sites. Technicians will work primarily throughout the Abilene Texas area and must be willing to travel to project sites as required.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent.
  • 3-5 years of construction materials testing or related construction experience.
  • Demonstrated experience performing soil density testing using a nuclear density gauge.
  • Nuclear Density Gauge Safety Training with HazMat certification required.
  • Experience performing field concrete testing.
  • ACI Field Technician Certification required.
  • Ability to work independently on construction sites and follow testing standards.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours including early mornings, evenings, weekends, or overnight travel as required.

Nice To Haves

  • TXDOT SB-102 Certification strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform construction-related field and quality control testing of soils and concrete in accordance with project, TXDOT, and safety requirements.
  • Conduct field density testing using a nuclear density gauge while ensuring radiation safety compliance.
  • Perform in-place concrete testing including slump, air content, temperature, and cylinder preparation.
  • Travels to various construction sites primarily throughout the Abilene Texas area with the potential likely for overnight and/or weekend work as needed.
  • Communicate field data and test results to project managers and engineers and assist with technical interpretation.
  • Transport equipment, test specimens, documentation, and assist with equipment setup and testing preparation.
  • Enter electronic daily field observation and summary reports and support other technicians, departments, and training activities.
  • Follow Atlas safety policies, supervise others as required, and report to on-site directors.
