About The Position

Safely and efficiently run the high-pressure CO2 Extraction Plant. Must be able to identify process problems, make necessary repairs, adjustments and assist in training new employees.

Requirements

  • Instrument Technician certification.
  • Need to have an aptitude for mechanical and/or electrical skills.
  • Ability to safely operate, troubleshoot and repair high pressure equipment.
  • First Aid/CPR trained.
  • Must comply with all John I. Haas, Inc. policies and procedures, including successful passing of pre-employment drug test.
  • Work a 42-hour work week with the ability to work a twelve-hour shift, as needed. Ability to cover additional shifts and work overtime.
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders and to walk in high elevation catwalk areas.
  • Ability to lift 75 pounds, with or without assistance.
  • Must not have sensitivity to hop allergies.
  • Must exercise good judgment.
  • Ability to become forklift certified.
  • Must be clean-shaven in order to wear a Scott Air-Pak.
  • Must have adequate hearing and vision to perform the job.
  • Must complete one month of extensive in-house training in pertinent areas of the job.
  • Able to lift, grasp and manipulate a twenty-foot-long aluminum pole used to unload extractors.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience operating an automated plant is helpful.
  • Knowledge of electricity, control theory, hydraulics and operating automated controls.

Responsibilities

  • Load/unload extractors inclusive of, but not limited to: Operate bridge crane and forklift. Open/close the top and bottom extractor closures. Load “super bags” into the extractors. Have a working knowledge of spent hop conveying system. Clean extractor top and bottom heads before closing. Prepare spent hop and raw hop samples for lab. Transport super bags from warehouse to CO2 Plant and stage within plant. Troubleshoot spent hop conveying system if plugged.
  • Observe and learn process from control room computer terminals inclusive of, but not limited to: Understand computer graphics and process variables. Understand how control system works. Understand how PID controller’s work. Learn and respond to all alarms. Operate the process using the automated and Manual sequence. Start-up and shutdown process. Assist Hot Co2 Flush, Caustic wash. Learn how interlocks work. Periodically scan all process screens to obtain situational awareness of the processing facility.
  • Perform daily/weekly maintenance, checklist duties and troubleshooting/repair.
  • Assist with troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of all mechanical/electrical/instrumentation systems inclusive of, but not limited to: Have a basic understanding of Repair, maintenance and calibration of control valves, sensors, transmitters and controllers. Understand and read electrical schematics. Understand how PLC’s and control systems work. Operation, repair and maintenance of pumps, heat exchangers, refrigeration systems, compressed air systems, CO2 systems Understand how PID controller’s work. Understand piping and instrumentation diagrams. Understand block and bleed procedures for valve replacement. Understand Basic Boiler operation.
  • Ability to locate stocked and non-stocked parts and supplies utilizing the Parts list as well as acquire a working knowledge of Placement of all parts and supplies.
  • Understand and implement 5S Procedures inclusive of but not limited to: Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain Operate vacuum and dust collection systems. Sweep and wash down assigned/shared areas. Ensure tools and items are well organized.
  • Handle chemicals inclusive of, but not limited to: Clean extract spills with methanol/fill methanol bottles. Handle caustic beads or liquid caustic. Understand and practice safe handling of chemicals. Understand and use appropriate personal protection equipment (PPE)
  • Understand and practice safety procedures inclusive of, but not limited to: Understand and monitor level of CO2 in all work and storage tanks Respond to all CO2 leak detection alarms. Know all safety procedures including equipment LOTO, welding, working form heights and vessel entry permits. Understand SDS, Secure flammables, chemicals and pressurized cylinders in proper area. Use of “Scott Air-Pak”
  • Inspect sensors and safety equipment. Ensure safety communication board is up to date and update if necessary.
  • Use D365 to scan and receive items for the plant, including inventory counts of all products, supplies, chemicals and finished goods. Entry of required production information into the appropriate D365 checklists.
  • Perform leadership tasks through positive communication and coordination between the production supervisor, crew lead, and operator team. Create an environment of problem solving by utilizing the Kaizen log and other communication tools and encouraging others to do the same.
  • Such other duties as may be assigned in accordance with Company needs and requirements.
