Position Summary The Coating Technician is responsible for the preparation, loading, operation, and monitoring of Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) coating systems used to apply Amorphous Diamond-Like Carbon (ADLC) and Chrome Nitride coatings. This role ensures all coated components meet established quality standards and production requirements. The operator will also perform routine equipment maintenance and monitor gas and vacuum systems to maintain safe and efficient operation.

Requirements

  • Education & Experience: High school diploma or GED required
  • Experience in PVD coating, vacuum systems, or industrial manufacturing preferred
  • Technical Skills: Basic mechanical aptitude
  • Understanding of vacuum systems and gas flow controls
  • Ability to read and follow technical work instructions
  • Familiarity with inspection tools (micrometers, calipers, thickness gauges, etc.)
  • Other Requirements: Strong attention to detail and quality control
  • Ability to lift and move parts and fixtures as required
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with ADLC or Chrome Nitride processes a plus

Responsibilities

  • Part Preparation & Handling Clean, degrease, and prepare parts according to coating specifications and work instructions
  • Inspect incoming parts for defects or non-conformities prior to coating
  • Properly rack, load, and unload parts in coating chambers to ensure optimal coating coverage
  • Handle parts carefully to prevent contamination or damage
  • Coating Operations Operate ADLC and Chrome Nitride PVD coating systems
  • Monitor coating parameters including temperature, pressure, gas flow rates, deposition time, and vacuum levels
  • Adjust process parameters as required within established guidelines
  • Maintain accurate production records and process documentation
  • Quality Assurance Perform in-process and final inspections of coated parts
  • Verify coating thickness, adhesion, finish, and overall quality per specifications
  • Identify, document, and report non-conforming products
  • Ensure all parts meet customer and internal quality standards before release
  • Equipment & Maintenance Perform routine preventative maintenance on coating machines and related equipment
  • Monitor and maintain gas delivery systems and vacuum systems
  • Check seals, pumps, lines, and other critical components for proper function
  • Assist with troubleshooting equipment and process issues
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas in accordance with safety standards
  • Safety Responsibilities Strictly follow all company safety policies and standard operating procedures
  • Adhere to all OSHA and applicable environmental, health, and safety regulations
  • Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and protective clothing as required
  • Follow proper lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures during maintenance and servicing of equipment
  • Safely handle compressed gases and monitor gas delivery systems for leaks or irregularities
  • Follow proper procedures when working with high-voltage equipment and vacuum systems
  • Immediately report unsafe conditions, equipment malfunctions, near-miss incidents, or injuries
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area to prevent contamination, slips, trips, and other hazards
  • Participate in required safety training and continuous improvement initiatives
