The Coatings Manufacturing Engineer will lead Vapor Phase Aluminide (VPA) Coating processes within our advanced aerospace manufacturing operations at the East Hartford, CT site. Current and future part designs have a growing demand for VPA coatings. This role will be responsible for driving process excellence, implementing best practices, supporting production needs, qualifying new equipment, and leading continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering or related field required
  • 5+ years of relevant engineering experience in aerospace coatings
  • Strong background in VPA coatings
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract

Nice To Haves

  • Six Sigma green belt or equivalent
  • Project management experience

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for the VPA coating process, ensuring adherence to specifications, standards, and customer requirements.
  • Develop, document, and implement best practices to ensure repeatability, reliability, and high yield across VPA operations.
  • Provide technical support to resolve production issues, address nonconformances, and maintain throughput.
  • Lead structured problem solving activities using RCCA tools and methodologies to address quality, yield, and equipment issues.
  • Drive initiatives focused on OEE, FPY, and cost reduction while ensuring compliance with quality requirements.
  • Lead procurement of new equipment and supporting systems
  • Lead part and equipment qualifications
  • Provide coaching and guidance to technicians and operators on process fundamentals, troubleshooting, and best practices.
  • Assist in MRL (Manufacturing Readiness Level) of new process to align with program requirements
  • Pursue operational excellence as subject matter expert for next generation coating processes
  • Drive product cost reduction and ensure targets are achieved through data driven process improvements and deployment of new technologies.
